AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon Elected Fellow of Indian National Science Academy
ALIGARH, September 11: Professor Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and a Professor of Psychology, has been elected as a Fellow of the prestigious Indian National Science Academy (INSA). The announcement was made during the Academy’s Annual General Meeting held on September 9, 2025.
The Fellowship, which will be effective from January 1, 2026, is regarded as one of the highest recognitions in the field of science and academia in India. INSA, established in 1935, elects Fellows who have made significant contributions in their respective areas of expertise, and whose experience and knowledge are expected to further enrich the Academy’s programmes and initiatives.
In its communication to Prof Khatoon, the Academy stated that her wide experience and deep expertise will be of immense value to its objectives, and her election will greatly benefit the institution in achieving new heights of excellence.
As per the Academy’s tradition, newly elected Fellows are invited to deliver a lecture on a subject of their choice during the Anniversary General Meeting of INSA, where they are formally inducted. Prof Khatoon has been invited to attend this meeting, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from December 1 to 6, 2025.
Expressing her gratitude, Prof Naima Khatoon said that she is honoured by the recognition from INSA and considers it not only a personal honour but also a testament to AMU’s enduring commitment to knowledge creation and nation-building. She emphasized that the Fellowship will inspire her to continue working towards strengthening the academic and research ecosystem of the higher education across the country.
Congratulating the Vice Chancellor on this achievement, AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof M Mohsin Khan said that her election as Fellow of INSA is a matter of immense pride for the university. He added that this honour not only recognizes her individual accomplishments but also reflects the academic and research excellence that AMU continues to uphold.

AMU's Prof. Vibha Sharma Selected for the Prestigious National Award to HEI Teachers 2025
Prof. Vibha Sharma, a senior faculty member in the Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been selected for the prestigious National Award to Teachers for Higher Educational Institutions and Polytechnics ’2025, instituted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. She will receive the award from the Hon’ble President of India at a ceremony scheduled to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5, 2025. Prof. Sharma is one of 21 awardees selected from across the country, and perhaps the first from the university to receive this honour.

AMU Prof. M J Warsi gets Colin P. Massica Award
Prof. M J Warsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University has been honoured with the prestigious “Colin. P. Massica Award-2024” during 51st All India Conference of Dravidian Linguists (AICDL) held at the Tamil University, Thanjavur, during June 27-29, 2024. The conference was jointly organized by Dravidian Linguistics Association of India, International School of Dravidian Linguistics (ISDL), Thiruvananthapuram, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysuru and Tamil University, Thanjavur.
The award has been instituted in the name of great American linguist, Prof. Colin. P. Massica, who is known for his seminal work, “Defining a Linguistic Area: South Asia and The Indo-Aryan Languages”.

Noted biotechnologist and scholar, Prof Asad Ullah Khan (Coordinator, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University) has been decorated with another prestigious award, Sri Om Prakash Bhasin Award-2019 for his trail-blazing research in Biotechnology. The award, held in high esteem across the country and is given to eminent scientists in the field of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology, Electronics, Engineering and Medical Sciences, carries a cash prize of Rupees one lakh with a citation and plaque.
The award has been conferred upon noted Indian scientists including APJ Abdul Kalam, MS Swaminathan, KG Menon and Prof Asad is the first recipient as AMU faculty member. Prof Obaid Siddiqui, an alumnus of AMU, received this honour in 1993.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor has congratulated Prof Khan on this awe-inspiring academic honour and said 'it is given on his seminal contribution to study of Antimicrobial resistance and infection biology of bacteria'.
The award will be given during the first week of November 2020
