Department of Ilaj Bit Tadbeer was bifurcated from Department of Moalijat as a super specialty in 2006 under 11th five year plan from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and practically came into being in 2011. The main objective of the Ministry to establish Ilaj Bit Tadbeer as an independent Department was to lay emphasis on the comprehensive learning and in-depth understanding of Ilaj Bit Tadbeer in order to contribute National workforce for serving the community specifically to curb the escalating burden of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Lifestyle disorders in the Indian subcontinent. Ilaj Bit Tadbeer is the ramification of Unani therapeutics that deals with the sustenance of Holistic health, through non medicalised classical preventive measures (six essential factors of life), and its restoration through various time tested regimens and modalities.

The Department is envisioned as preeminent across the country in the pertinent field with Faculty having academic and research excellence and robust infrastructural support for various regimens including Hijama (Cupping), Fasd (Therapeutic Phlebotomy), Irsale Alaq (Leech therapy), Inkebab (Medicated steam Bath), Nutool (Irrigation) Dalk (Therapeutic Massage), Takmeed (Fomentation), Riyazat (Therapeutic Exercise), Hammam (Turkish Bath), Pashoya (Foot bath), Aabzan (Sitz Bath) Wax bath etc. All these procedures are highly effective to deal with the onslaught of diseases like Obesity, Diabetes, Hypertension, Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, Arthritis, Cervical and Lumbar Spondylosis, Frozen shoulder, Fibromyalgia, chronic Fatigue syndrome, post Stroke morbidities etc. The Department is continuously striving towards developing SOPs for these regimens in order to generate structured data needed to validate them scientifically.

The Department has published 19 Books, 259 Research Papers in refereed National and International Journals, 105 invited & memorial lectures with 03 National Awards. The Department has also organized 03 conferences cum workshops, 06 CMEs for teachers and medical officers funded by Govt. of India. Various Free Camps also has been organized by the Department on periodic basis including Bone Mineral Density test, Vibration Perception test and Diabetes screening and management camps.

Besides this, senior Faculty has been identified as subject experts for various projects of MHRD & Ministry of AYUSH. The department has started Post Graduate course from the academic session 2019-2020.Department has also started a Certificate course in Hijama Therapy through CPC, AMU from academic year 2021-22 with the approval from University Academic Council.
