ORAL ONCOLOGY UNIT INAUGURATED

AMU VC INAUGURATES ORAL ONCOLOGY UNIT

Aligarh, July 19 To mark the Silver Jubilee of Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College (AMU), the Oral Oncology Unit has been established in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

The Vice Chancellor also released the first issue of the University Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Sciences on the occasion.

Prof Mansoor appreciated the establishment of the oral oncology unit and highlighted the need of involvement of an interdisciplinary surgical team for best outcome of the oral cancer treatment. He assured his full cooperation for further development of the Dental College and praised the team of University Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery for publishing the good quality papers in the first issue.

On the occasion Prof Shahid A Siddiqui (Dean, Principal and CMS, JN Medical College), appreciated the establishment of Oral Oncology Unit and highlighted the incidence of oral cancer. He mentioned that the facilities of treating oral cancer with resection and rehabilitation are available at a few centres and it is very expensive too. There is a need to reduce the treatment cost to improve the affordability of treatment to the common man, he added.

At the inaugural function Prof SS Ahmed ( Chairman Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery),  said that  the purpose of the oral cancer unit is to prevent, intercept the oral cancers and extension of facilities to oral cancer patients by early diagnosis, treatment, and post operative care and rehabilitation.

Prof  RK Tewari (Principal ZADC) ,  informed  that on the occasion of  Silver Jubilee Year of the establishment of dental college, many webinars have been organized which have benefited dental professionals. He acknowledged the support given by the Vice Chancellor for the development of Dental College.   

Prof GS Hashmi offered a vote of thanks. The program was attended by Chairpersons of departments of studies of Dr ZA Dental College.  Prof ND Gupta, Prof Afshan Bey, Dr Shadab Rizvi, Dr MK Jindal, Dr Kalim Ansari and Dr Tabishur Rahman were also present.

Dr Mohammad Danish, Assistant professor anchored the program.

WORLD CANCER DAY CELEBRATED :   6th  FEBRUARY 2020 

World Cancer Day -2020 was celebrated by Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Department Periodontics and Community, of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College , AMU, Aligarh . An extension lecture was organized on the occasion in which Dr. Anshuman Kumar ( Director and Chief Onco-Surgeon, Dharmshila Cancer Hospital, New Delhi), delivered a lecture on "Bridge the Gap ? Itz Cancer" and discussed the socio and medical aspects of this dreadful disease. He was of the view that dental surgeons can help in early diagnosis of oral cancers by developing awareness in the public by social activities. The lecture was well attended by the faculty members, residents and students of Dr. Z. A. Dental College. Prof. S. S. Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Oral Maxillofacial surgery extended vote of thanks and Prof. R.K. Tewari presented the certificate and momento to the guest speaker.

CLINICAL TRAINING PROGRAM CONCLUDED

The dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery organised three months clinical training program scheduled 1st February-30th April 2016. . According to Dr. Sarwar Hashmi, chairperson, the program was specially designed for young & budding Dental surgeons who have limited clinical exposure. Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal, Dr. Z. A. Dental College congratulated the participant & distributed the certificate of appreciation to the trainees who have successfully completed three months program. Dr. Hashmi also welcomed the newly admitted batch will start from 1st May 2016 & acknowledge the presence of Prof. S S Ahmed, Dr. Shadab M Rizvi, Dr. Sajjad A Rahman, Dr. Kalim Ansari & Residents of the department.

On 13TH FEBRUARY 2016

WORLD ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEONS DAY celebrated in the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, DR. Z. A. DENTAL COLLEGE, ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY. This day is celebrated on the mark of first meeting of international association that was held 13th February 1969. The program started with free screening of Oral Cancer patients at dental college premises along with the poster presentation at conference Hall. Out of 16 students, Miss Sabiha Naaz & Nishat Shamim awarded the best poster for oral cancers. Principal Prof. R K Tewari welcomed the Guest & congratulated the chairman, dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for organizing OMFS Day. Dr. Hashmi conveyed thanks to Prof. Shahid Siddiqui & Prof. Afshan Bey for judging the posters. The celebration was graced by Prof. s s ahmed, Dr. Shadab m rizvi, Dr. Sajjad A Rehman, Dr. Pankaj & residents of the dept. of Oral & maxillofacial surgery.

The Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) is celebrating February 13 as the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day to commemorate the 1st meeting of AOMSI held on this date in the year 1969.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a branch of surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region

On 18th OCTOBER 2016

The 2nd Annual conference of Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons of India (UP Chapter) was organized by the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery between 24th-25th September 2016. The conference was a huge success with a record highest number of delegate registrations at a state level.

Honourable Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University was the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony. Honourable Pro Vice Chancellor Brig. (Retd.) Syed Ahmed Ali and National president of Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. David Tauro were the Guest of Honour.

The conference began with a welcome speech by the Organizing Secretary, Dr. G. S. Hashmi. & principal Dental College Prof. R. K. Tewari. After the inauguration ceremony, a cultural event was also organized which kept the audience mesmerised till a marvellous dinner was served in the premises of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College lawn.

Notable Speakers of National and International repute from all over India like Dr. Saidul Islam (number one microvascular surgeon of the country) Dr. David P Tauro (President Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon of India) Prof. Dhirendra Srivastava, Prof. Shadab Mohammad, Prof. Divya Mehrotra, Dr. Kannan Balaraman attended the conference and shared their experiences in different arena of maxillofacial surgery with the delegates in their keynote lectures.

Two preconference workshops were organized which saw 100% attendance and the delegates attending the courses went home with new set of skills up their sleeves. The first preconference course was the launching of COMPREHENSIVE CARDIAC ARREST RESUUSCITATION COURSE by INDO-US emergency & trauma and it is certified by Academic College of emergency expert. This course is launched first time in India & Aligarh Muslim University provided the platform for that programme. All credit goes to Prof. Syed Moied Ahmed & his team specially Prof. Sanjeev Bhoi, Additional Professor, Emergency medicine, Trauma Centre, AIIMS New Delhi. We would also thanks to Prof. Amanullah Khan Sb. Dean Faculty of Medicine for inaugurating this workshop.

The second workshop was conducted by Dr. Saidul Islam on Microvascular Anastomosis. Huge response all over the country.

The conference ends on 25th September, 2016 with a closing note of the president, Association of Oral & maxillofacial surgeons of India, UP Chapter.

Workshop on cleft lip, palate and face deformities 16/11/2019

16-NOV-2019:   Workshop on cleft lip, palate and face deformities

Aligarh, November 16: Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University, will organize a workshop from November 22 to December 6, 2019 for the treatment of Cleft Lip, Palate along with other congenital and acquired anomalies of face and nose. The workshop is being organized by cooperation of Interplast Germany and AMU. The treatment will be given free of cost to poor and deprived patients of society.

In this workshop those cases will be also be operated who were operated earlier and the next their stage is due and will also monitor and attend cases that were operated elsewhere and are unsatisfied with results.

Prof SS Ahmed informed that prior registration is mandatory which will be done on November 19 from 9 am to 1:30 pm in the OPD 5 of Dental College.

AMU NEWS : Camp for detection of pre-cancerous lesion 13/2/2013

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University will hold a camp for detection of precancerous lesion and cancers of oral cavity as a commemorating gesture on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day on February 13, 2013.

Patient who are already receiving treatment for oral cancer can also visit the camp in OPD No. 5 of the dental College for any advice. On this occasion, registration for free treatment of cleft lip and palate and other facial deformities will also be done. Those patients who have already been operated in Dental College for cleft lip and palate may see the doctors for further check up.
