About the Department
The Department of Strategic and Security
Studies is one of the newest Departments of Studies of Aligarh Muslim
University. Though formally conceived in 2015 as one of the core units of the
newly established Faculty of International Studies, the Department began
offering open elective courses especially designed to meet the requirements of
the Undergraduate and Post-Graduate students of Departments of Foreign
Languages, and West Asian and North African Studies from the session 2017-18. A
year later, Department commenced its Ph.D. programme from the session 2018-19.
The much awaited flagship programme of the Department i.e. M.A. in
International Politics with specialization in Strategic and Security Studies
will be launched from the session 2021-22.

To emerge as a premier world class academic institution of innovative teaching and research in the arena of Strategic, Security and Peace Studies.
Mission
To impart knowledge and undertake cutting age research in the arena of Strategic, Security and Peace studies with a broader aim to achieve the goal of more Peaceful, Humane, Secure and Inclusive World.
To
contribute and shape the global discourse in the field of
Strategic, Security and Peace studies.
Programme Learning Outcomes
Ph.D.
To
expand the frontier of knowledge in the arena of Strategic, Security, and Peace
studies by integrating both, the best theoretical insights and analytical tools
as well as qualitative and quantitative research techniques to pursue socially
relevant research.
To utilise the research
outcomes creatively, innovatively and constructively to help build a more
peaceful, humane, secure and inclusive world.
M.A.
To orient students with knowledge and to develop theoretical and critical understanding of concepts and issues in the broader field of Strategic, Security and Peace Studies covering a wide spectrum of questions of global politics.
To develop analytical ability to be applied to international strategic and security issues.
