Dr. Faiza Abbasi

Dr Faiza Abbasi is Director of the UGC MMMTTC (erstwhile HRDC, originally Academic Staff College) at the Aligarh Muslim University where she has been working for the past 12 years and also serves as Programme Director of the US Dept of State’s Access  Program for AMU schools. For the National Teachers & Teaching Mission of the Ministry of Education, Govt of India she executed the five year CALEM (Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management) for over 50 Indian Minorities Managed Higher Education Institutions of India most of which she personally visited. Earlier she did her Masters and PhD from the Dept of Wildlife Sciences in AMU and engages in multidisciplinary UG, PG teaching and Research in Environmental Studies and faith based conservation specially to students of Madrassa background as Honorary teacher at the KA Nizami Centre for Quran Studies, AMU. 

 

Dr Abbasi has completed the prestigious Leadership for Academicians Programme of the Ministry of Education at the Ohio State University, United States of America; Monash University, Melbourne, Australia; and the Nurturing Future Leadership Programme from the Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur. She has also obtained skill enhancement certificates and diplomas for courses from the Writers' Bureau, Manchester; Centre for Quran Studies, AMU and Harvard EdX. She has been conferred with awards including Governor’s Medal for Social Service by Ministry of Youth Affairs, Best Paper Award by Indian Forester, and Nishan e Urdu Award by the UP Government.

 

She is an expert speaker at Continuous Professional Development Programmes of Higher Education Institutions across the country in online, residential and MOOCs platforms. She has authored/ edited 15 books in English / Urdu and regularly publishes scholarly and creative pieces in reputed national and international periodicals. She is also on the editorial board and a reviewer for peer reviewed and UGC CARE listed journals. She is on the Advisory board of Centre for Women’s Studies, AMU; Internal Complaints Committee, Income Tax Dept, Aligarh and 

 

Dr Faiza has been the bilingual presenter of AMU functions like Sir Syed Day Commemoration, Convocation, Alumni Meet, Vice Chancellor's Conclave and Centenary Celebrations for over a decade. She also emceed for Jashn e Rekhta, New Delhi and broadcasts from All India Radio Urdu Section. In her spare time she volunteers for registered charities and citizens groups for education, literature and women empowerment namely Aligarh Self Reliance Alliance, Muslim Social Uplift Society; Shiva Development Society, New Delhi; Prabha Khaitan Foundation, Kolkata; AMU Women’s Club and Bazm e Adab Khawateen. 


She has travelled extensively in India and abroad including USA, Australia, UK, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Nepal, KSA, Sultanate of Oman, UAE, and Scotland, and she is a well-read scholar with wide reading interests in fiction, self-help, and contemporary issues in English, Hindi and Urdu. Dr Faiza divides her time between Aligarh and her hometown Gorakhpur in UP, India where she also founded the Prof Jamshed Siddiqui IT Centre for Community Development and Ebadat Charities respectively.
