He is an Assistant Professor of Ancient Indian History and Archaeology in the Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He is specialized in South Asian archaeology.

Dr. Alam's academic background is rooted in a strong foundation, having completed both his Bachelor's (2009) and Master's (2011) degrees at the University of Allahabad, Allahabad. He subsequently pursued doctoral research at Bananras Hindu University, earning his PhD in Ancient Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology in 2018, under the supervision and mentorship of Professor Ravindra Nath Singh.

He has been Visiting-Fellow in McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge in 2019. He has also been the Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the projects of TIGR2ESS (Transforming India's Green Revolution by Research and Empowerment for Sustainable Food Supplies) and MAHSA (Mapping Archaeological Heritage in South Asia) in the University of Cambridge and Banaras Hindu University in 2020-2022 and 2022-2023 respectively.

He has also been the recipient of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA-2022) Postdoctoral Fellow at the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, Spain, but opted to pursue an academic career as Assistant Professor at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
