Background
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital is a tertiary level hospital attached to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College affiliated to the Aligarh Muslim University. It was established in 1962 with the following vision and mission:

The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital is a 1269 bedded tertiary care hospital which is providing affordable Medical Care to all sections of society especially to the economically weaker sections. As a policy, Hospital does not refuse admission if indicated to any patient.

Hospital Statistics
The hospital has an ever increasing attendance of 6,52,223 patients in 22 OPDs in 2014. The male patients attending the OPDs were 3,23,458 whereas 3,28,765 were female. 55127 patients were admitted in 22 wards of the hospital. A total of 15803 Operations were performed at the hospital. The administrative duties of the Emergency Section are performed by the Casualty Medical Officer whereas the clinical management is by the doctors of respective units of the Clinical specialities/ Departments on rotation basis. There were nearly 43,000 patients turning up in the Emergency Section.
6,63040 laboratory investigations were done for patients suffering from various diseases/conditions. 1,68, 486 investigations were done at the X-ray and related sections. It is noteworthy that out of these 29,473 were done free of cost (after following the laid down rules and procedures of the hospital) to the poor and needy patients who could not afford to pay. Bed Occupancy Rate as per MCI norms for the intake of 150 M.B.B.S students is 88.60%.
Teaching and Training
Being a teaching hospital , teaching of Post‐graduate Degree & Diploma to the students enrolled through Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College under Aligarh Muslim University, are conducted in the Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obst. & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Anaesthesia, Radio‐Diagnosis, Radiotherapy, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Physiology, Anatomy, Community Medicine, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology is undertaken. Students are also being enrolled for Mch course in Postgraduate Department of Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
The Hospital is also giving a platform for imparting training to the Students of the Nursing School and Para-Medical Courses.
The Hospital Blood Bank has been rated excellent among all Blood Banks running in the state of Uttar Pradesh since 2011 by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare run National AIDS Control Organization (NACO).
Research Activities
Besides the regular clinical work various research activities are undertaken on a regular basis in the different departments of the hospital. A number of these are published in National and international medical journals.
Upgradation of Facilities under PMSSY Scheme
In an effort to provide state of the art infrastructure and the equipments for efficient working of the doctors and paramedical staff in the interest of patient care, the hospital is being upgraded with medical and surgical facilities under PMSSY. The construction of the Trauma Centre, OPD block, Cardiothoracic and Cardiology block, new Gynaecology and Obstetrics block has been completed and will be fully functional very shortly. 219 Beds are being added under PMSSY Scheme.
The Project involves construction of building under PMSSY Phase II for upgradation of Medical and Surgical facilities. Rs. 150 crores has been sanctioned out of which 125 crores is from MOH & FW and Rs. 25 crores is from MHRD, Govt. of India.
