 The Aligarh Muslim University under the provisions of its Act established the office of the Proctor. The office is headed by the Proctor which is a statutory position. The Proctor's office was primarily established to maintain law and order in the University and to act as liaison between university and district administration. However, with the ever expanding university campus, and the burgeoning students population, the responsibilities of the office of the Proctor has broadened to include all security concerns of the university.
                                                                    
The Proctor is appointed by the Executive Council from amongst the teachers of the University not below the rank of a Reader/Associate Professor on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor and exercises such powers and performs such duties  in respect of the maintenance of Law and Order in the University as are assigned to him by the Vice-Chancellor. The Proctor holds office for a term of two years.

  • To inculcate discipline among students and to provide free and fare atmosphere for teaching, learning and research.

  • To maintain law and order in the campus.

  • To reform and rehabilitate students through mediation, conciliation and counselling.

  • Zero tolerance of indiscipline in the University campus and its maintained centres.

  • To ensure constituent units of the University carry out academic activities smoothly.

  • To foster moral as well as social values amongst students.

  • To prevent the students from indulging in any antisocial activities in and around the campus.



Objectives

  • To facilitate sustainable congenial atmosphere to the students for teaching, learning and research.

  • To ensure all academic and sports events organized by the university are conducted hassle free in the campus.

  • To prevent unwanted elements in the campus by restricting the entry at the main gates of the campus.

  • To address the grievances of the students and employees of the University as per the rules of the university.

  • To assist smooth conduct of all examinations, admissions in various courses of the university.

  • To resolve dispute among students through mediation and conciliation as far as possible.

  • To liaison with the District Administration for better law and order in the University campus.

  • To help and facilitate foreign students in AMU.

  • To ensure safety and security of university assets and establishments.
