The Costume design and Dress making section at the institute came into existence in 1966 with the establishment of University Women's Polytechnic. The section was established to offer quality education in the field of textile designing and marketing. The Diploma course namely Diploma in Costume design and garment technology was started with an intake of 20 students. During the course of time the student's intake has been raised to 35 wherein 5 seats have been reserved for NRI students after looking at the popularity of the course. The labs in the section are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Encouraged with the success of the section, the institute started an Advanced Diploma Course in Interior Decoration in the year 2012.


VISION


To prepare students for professional career or higher studies in the field of designing and manufacturing of garments. The section promotes excellence in teaching, collaborative activities and significant contribution to the society.


MISSION


M1: To focus on practical work as well as maintain a proper balance between theoretical and practical parts of the diploma course.

M2: To provide quality and novelty in garment designing.

M3: To produce freelance and competent designers as per the requirement of industry.

M4: Continuing formal and informal educational training / programs relevant to manufacturing units.

M5: To undertake innovative projects and promote new ideas.


Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1: To motivate the students to apply their knowledge and skills to successfully practice professions of their choice and be valued members of their organization pertaining their skills and abilities.

PEO2: To cultivate professionals with an ability to innovate new styles and cuts of design with incredible features that functions fruitful to accomplish target customers.

PEO3: To foster professionals who understand the managerial responsibilities related to issues such as social, ethical and environmental aspects of textile and fashion industry.

PEO4: To encourage the students to demonstrate professional and personal growth and engage in life-long learning via participation in a professional society, higher education, professional development courses and industry training courses.

PO1: Able to assess, propose and apply various techniques related to drafting, draping, illustration and Garment construction.

PO5: Able to apply historic/ethnic costumes knowledge to modern fashion design construction.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

PSO1: Able to apply the techniques of drafting, draping, illustration, garment construction and fundamentals of dress designing as well as articulate design ideas verbally, visually and digitally.

PSO2: Able to execute projects utilizing development and production equipment's as well as to gain experience in responding to market opportunities with creative and innovative products.

PSO3: Able to develop strong multifunctional teamwork and communication skills using verbal and visual presentation to design and develop the strategies required to manage the garment industries and be able to solve the real time problems related to the industries.

PSO4: Able to inculcate lifelong learning in students and strive to become responsible citizen by practicing moral values, sustainability, sensitivity & ethics.
