World Diabetes Day
Aligarh, November 16: The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology (RGCDE), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), observed World Diabetes Day by organizing a program that featured an interactive educational session, emphasizing diet, lifestyle, and medication adherence.
Comprehensive health services, including fundus examinations and glucose and HbA1c testing, were provided, along with yoga and exercise sessions to promote wellness.
A quiz for patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) was also held, with prizes awarded to the top three winners.
The chief guest, Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, and Principal, JN Medical College, stressed the importance of a healthy lifestyle in diabetes management and advocated for integrating all diabetes care departments under one roof of RGCDE to ensure seamless, patient-centered care.
The Director of the RGCDE, Prof. Sheelu Shafiq Siddiqi, emphasized the importance of introducing education on diabetes mellitus at the school level, particularly for type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).
He also highlighted the need to implement continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems and establish a centralized CGM Command Centre at the RGCDE.
Several experts, including Prof. Waseem Rizvi, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Hamid Ashraf, and Dr. Ahmad Alam, attended the program.
