Dr. Mohammad Adnan did his PhD under the supervision of Prof. G. Vijaya Prakash at Nanophotonics Lab, Department of Physics, IIT Delhi after completing graduate and postgraduate studies at Aligarh Muslim University. During his PhD, he also worked with Prof. Jeremy Baumberg at Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK under Newton Bhabha PhD fellowship program. He got the opportunity to attend 69th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Lindau, Germany where he had the privilege of meeting several Nobel laureates and gaining insights from their personal experiences. After PhD, he worked with Dr. Tobias Koenig at King’s lab at IPF Dresden, Germany and later, he was honored to receive a prestigious grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, enabling him to join Prof. Rudolf Bratschitsch at Ultrafast Solid-state Quantum Optics and Nanophotonics Group at University of Muenster, Germany. During his PhD and postdoctoral research, he published total 22 high-impact research papers (as on June 2024) in Chemistry of Materials, ACS Nano, Nature-Scientific Reports, Advanced Optical Materials, Applied Surface Science, Journal of Physical Chemistry C and so on. Dr. Adnan received several national and international fellowships viz Gold Medallist in MSc (Physics), DST INSPIRE Scholarship and DST INSPIRE Fellowship, CSIR-JRF, GATE, Newton Bhabha PhD Fellowship, Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship. Dr. Adnan has visited various countries, including the UK, Germany, Egypt, France, the Netherlands, Austria, and Belgium, for conferences and research purposes. He possesses successful links with many world-wide eminent researchers from University of Cambridge (UK), University of Southampton (UK), IPF Dresden (Germany), University of Muenster (Germany), Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf (HZDR-Germany) for wide range of research collaborations.

Dr. Adnan has more than 09 years of doctoral and post-doctoral extensive hands-on experience on light-matter interactions in wide range of novel optical materials, namely Inorganic-Organic hybrid perovskites, Transition metal dichalcogenides, heterostructures, colloidal nanoparticles and other emitting species using highly sophisticated ultrafast laser sources. The expertise, not limited to, is on high-pressure and ultra-low temperature spectroscopy, transient absorption spectroscopy, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, up-conversion photoluminescence, two-photon and multiphoton absorption induced photoluminescence spectroscopy and imaging, XFROG, back focal plane imaging. These are unique experimental techniques to explore about excited state charge carrier dynamics, exciton lifetimes, and provide understanding about free excitons and crumpled excitons, interlayer and intralayer excitons, dark excitons, trions. Apart from having deep experience with ultrafast optics/spectroscopy, he has equally good expertise in synthesis and fabrication techniques (solid-state and chemical synthesis, various deposition techniques, top-down and bottom-up fabrications), laser interference lithography techniques and typical clean-room characterizations such as PL, absorption, DLS, SEM, TEM, XRD, AFM, Raman etc.

Research interests: Ultrafast dynamics, Femtosecond time-resolved photoluminescence and pump-probe spectroscopy, 2D materials, low temperature spectroscopy, high pressure-induced spectroscopy, self-assembly photonic structures
