Dr. Md Yusuf Afaque pursued his fellowship (FNB) in minimal access surgery (advance laparoscopic surgery) for gastrointestinal disease at Max super speciality hospital, Saket, New Delhi, and then got trained in AIIMS, New Delhi, for three years. He is also trained in abdominal Wall Surgery from Madrid, Spain.

He has contributed immensely in the field of abdominal wall reconstruction for complex ventral hernia.

He has published three innovations in surgery, four review articles apart from many other key articles. 

He is a reviewer of eight major international journals like the American Journal of Surgery, Journal of Robotic Surgery, Langenbach's Archives of Surgery (Germany), Hernia (official publication of American and European hernia society), BMC surgery and national journals like Indian Journal of Surgery and Journals of Minimal Access Surgery. 

He has authored a chapter in the book on small bowel diseases (Intech Open, London, UK) and a chapter on his innovative surgery, (Springer Nature, Singapore).  His chapters are being published in four more books.

He has a YouTube channel for teaching operative techniques of complex surgeries, with more than three thousand surgeons keenly following his work (21 videos, 2,25,000 views).  Two third of the views are from outside India with maximum from United States.

He is an Executive Committee Member of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) and previously he was also an Executive Committee Member of Hernia Society of India (2021-2023).
