Dr. Fatima Khan is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, J. N. Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and currently serves as the Provost of Begum Sultan Jahan (BSJ) Hall. She is the Young Ambassador to India (2024–2026) for the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).

At JNMC, she holds several important administrative and clinical responsibilities, including Incharge of the Central Sterilization Unit, Convener of the Biomedical Waste Management Committee, Secretary Hospital Infection Control Committee and Convener of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. She is also deeply involved in hospital infection control activities and is the Founder Secretary of the Hospital Infection Society of India – Aligarh Chapter and is also a member of the Executive Board of the Hospital Infection Society India.

She is passionate about teaching and well-known for her student-friendly approach. She is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate training and is currently mentoring MBBS students, guiding them in academics and professional development.

She has successfully completed a Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science & Technology–sponsored project on leptospirosis, and currently has three ongoing research projects in her areas of expertise, which include bacteriology, antimicrobial resistance, and hospital-acquired infections. She also organized a National Symposium on “Hospital-Acquired Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance” in December 2014.

Her contributions to research and medical education have been widely recognized. She received the Best Paper Award for her research titled “MRSA – A Threat to the Hospitals in India” at the 56th Annual National Conference of the Indian Public Health Association, Kochi, Kerala (2012). She also won the second prize for her project “Peer Tutoring of Healthcare Staff in Low-Resource Teaching Hospital” at the Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME) Workshop held at NHLMMC, Ahmedabad, on 26–27 July 2024.

Dr. Khan has numerous publications in reputed national and international journals, including the Australasian Medical Journal, Journal of Laboratory Physicians, Trends in Medical Research, American Eurasian Journal of Scientific Research, Neurology Asia, Malaysian Journal of Microbiology, and the Journal of Pure and Applied Microbiology.

She completed her MBBS and MD in Microbiology from JNMC, AMU, and is certified in Infection Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. I

In addition to her academic and clinical roles, she serves as the Treasurer of the UPUK Chapter of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM) and as the Joint Secretary of the AMU Women’s Club.
