M.A. Library provides text similarity detection in research articles, theses and dissertations facility to faculty members, research scholars and students of the university.  There are two software available for the purpose, namely DrillBit (provided by UGC w.e.f. 01.10.2023) and TURNITIN (subscribed by the university).

FAQs

  1. What documents may be checked ? 

- Research paper, thesis and dissertation shall be checked for plagiarism.

2. What type of file format may be checked ?     

     For documents in English:- MS Word / searchable PDF

     For documents in Hindi, Sanskrit and other Indian languages:- MS Word only typed in Mangal font (unicode).

     For documents in Arabic, Persian, Urdu:- MS Word only.


3. Who are eligible for this facility ?

    Faculty members/stafff and research scholars of the university.

4.  Which Softwares are used ?

                   publication 

                                     Provided by UGC (w.e.f. 01.10.2023) for all above mentioned document types. It is mandatory 

                                     to check the theses through the DrillBit Software; 

                  publication 

                                     Subscribed by AMU for cheecking similarity in research articles.

5. How to get ?

1. Research Scholars are advised to send their own documents to malcom.amu@gmail.com for text similarity checking. They need to mention their name, enrollment no., course, department, supervisor's / guide's name, type of document (i.e. research article / thesis / dissertation etc.) and supervisor's / guide's email id along with scanned copy of their ID card, admission / continuation card. 

2. This facility is available in online mode only (through email).

3. Faculty and staff may send their document by email to malcom.amu@gmail.com mentioning their name, designation, employment id, department, document type etc.

       4. Faculty members may also send the thesis / research article of their research scholars / students mentioning details of students i.e. student's name, enrollment number, topic, course name along with own details. 

                                    

6. What are the timings ?
Eligible users can avail text similarity checking facility on all working days during 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM (except Friday) and 09:00 AM to 12:00 Noon (on Friday).


7. How many times a particular document be checked ?
The same document shall be checked only two times if required.


8. What about the Similarity Report ? 
The similarity report may be forwarded to the user's E-mail ID on next working day (Note:- Users are advised to send the document for similarity check at least three days prior to last date of submission since the similarity report generation may take time from the server end).

9. How to interpret the similarity report ?

10. Can I check similarity myself ?
Due to the limited number of accounts provided by M/s Turnitin LLC, turnitin accounts may created for faculty members only. Please see the CIRCULAR. Faculty members may fill out the form to avail of the facility at their end CLICK HERE.


Important Note:

1.All Students are required to send scanned copy of their valid ID cards and should send their own documents only for similarity check.

2. If it is found that the sent document do not belong to the sender then the document will not be checked. 

3. The above mentioned software are text comparing software only and show similarity/significance in percent.

4. Repeated checking of the same document may show variable results since the database of the software keeps updating.

5.Scanned documents without searchable format in any language cannot be checked for similarity.

6.Before sending documents for text similarity checking, users are advised to consult UGC (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2018.
