Aligarh, November 4: Aligarh Muslim University, Women's Polytechnic successfully organized a three-day jewellery-making workshop for first- and third-semester students of the Diploma in Costume Design & Garment Technology. The hands-on training program provided students with practical skills in designing and crafting personalized jewellery.

The workshop, led by resource person Ms. Yashoda, focused on teaching various techniques in jewellery-making, including wire wrapping, beading and metalworking. Students explored tools and materials like beads, wires, and stones, gaining insights into creating necklaces, earrings, bracelets, anklets, and hairpins. The experience enabled students to cultivate creativity and precision in their craft, with over 100 unique pieces produced during the sessions.

Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal, served as the Convener, with Dr. Sheeba Manzoor as Co-Convener, and Ms. Sadia Naim, Mrs. Fauzia Khan, and Ms. Ikra Salim as organizing secretaries. The workshop showcased the potential of jewellery design as a path to self-employment.

Aligarh, October 29: Aligarh Muslim University Women’s Polytechnic, in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange (NSE), hosted a workshop titled “Basic Investment Skills for Financial Empowerment”. This initiative aimed to boost financial literacy and empower students and young professionals by providing them with essential knowledge on personal finance management, investment options, and strategies for long-term financial security.

Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal, University Women’s Polytechnic, welcomed attendees and stressed the importance of financial literacy, noting that acquiring these skills is vital for personal growth and economic resilience.

Mr. Izharul Islam, Regional Officer at NSE, addressed participants virtually, emphasizing the need for students to develop sound investment skills and a strong grasp of financial markets to make confident financial decisions.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Akeelurrehman, an NSE expert, who shared insights on topics including the basics of investment, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), sovereign gold bonds, and essential financial planning strategies. His interactive session provided attendees with valuable knowledge on making informed choices, understanding the benefits of portfolio diversification, and exploring various investment vehicles.

Over 80 participants engaged in this informative session, gaining skills and insights to make proactive financial decisions. The workshop was designed not only to impart practical knowledge but also to inspire participants to take charge of their financial futures.

Dr. Sohaib Masood, Organizing Secretary, coordinated the event, with Dr. Sheeba Kamal, Co-convener, overseeing arrangements. Dr. Sheeba Manzoor concluded the session with a vote of thanks.

AMU Students Shine at IIT Indore Symposium with Innovative Voice Assistant and  Smart Attendance System Project

Aligarh, October 23: Ms. Shaily Bhardwaj and Ms. Anam Khan, final-year students of Diploma in Electronics Engineering at University Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), showcased their innovative project at a prestigious symposium organized by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore. The event, held on 3rd and 4th October 2024, was in collaboration with IEEE Madhya Pradesh Section, the Hybrid Nanodevice Research Group (HNRG) IIT Indore, and the IEEE Sensors Council of IIT Indore.

Competing under the theme "Advancement in Emerging Technologies: From Idea to Impact," the students presented their project titled "Beyond Jarvis: Creating Orion-like Voice Assistant," which also featured a Smart Attendance System. Among 100 participants from institutions like IITs, NITs, and VITs, their project stood out.

Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal of University Women’s Polytechnic, expressing her confidence in the students, stated that they will continue to excel and bring further accolades to the university with their skills. She also acknowledged the guidance of Mr. Mohd. Shahbaz, lead of Polytechnic RoboClub, and Dr. Mohd Ajmal , Section Incharge for their mentorship.

Annual function organized

ALIGARH April 29: The Aligarh Muslim University Women’s Polytechnic organized its Annual Function with prize distribution for the winners of various literary, cultural and sports events organized over the last few weeks to celebrate various occasions.

Addressing the students, the chief guest, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Naima Khatoon appreciated the role the Women’s Polytechnic is playing in spreading technical education among the female students and thus working to strengthen the idea of women empowerment in the true sense.

She said it is appreciable that the polytechnic is helping women to secure careers as future engineers, fashion designers and IT professionals, and attain overall development through academic pursuits and literary, cultural and sports activities. She urged the female students to come out of their shells and be assertive to survive the highly competitive environment.

She said that the university administration will provide all necessary help and support to the Women’s Polytechnic in securing the status of a Women’s Institute of Technology.

The Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology congratulated the winners of various events and urged them to participate in the competitive events as it would help them polish their skills.

Dr. Ayesha Farooq (Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Research) was the guest of honour and Prof. Samina Khan (Presiding Officer, Internal Complaint Committee) was the special guest.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, the Principal of the Women’s Polytechnic, Dr. Salma Shaheen read out the annual report and highlighted the achievements of the faculty members and students.

Ms Tanushka Gautam, Vice-President, Poly Society delivered a welcome address, Ms Syeda Shira Moin conducted the programme and Dr Sheeba Kamal, Incharge, Poly Society extended a vote of thanks.
