About the Department of Radio-Diagnosis, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU

 


1.   Introduction

The Department of Radio-Diagnosis at Aligarh Muslim University was established in 1967 and has since evolved into a centre of excellence in diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology. The department is equipped with state of the art imaging technologies, including advanced digital radiography, ultrasound with colour Doppler and elastography, mammography with stereotactic biopsy, multislice CTscanners(16slice and 128 slice), and a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit. As part of the teaching hospital, the department serves both clinical patients and medical education objectives, offering comprehensive imaging services with a focus on accuracy, safety, and research-driven patient care.Aligarh Muslim University


2.   Current Academic Programmes

The department currently offers the following postgraduate programmes:

 

·         MD Radiodiagnosis(recognized by MCI since 1972)


·         BMRIT(Bachelor of Medical radiology and Imaging Technology)

 

Each academic year, the department admits three MD candidates, six DMRD candidates, and ten DMLT radiology diploma students as part of its commitment to high-standard radiology training. Aligarh Muslim University

Our mission is to deliver high-quality diagnostic and interventional imaging services at an afford able cost, support evidence-based patient management, and cultivate clinical, academic, and research excellence in radiology.

To advance the science and practice of diagnostic radiology through academic leadership, innovative imaging techniques, collaborative research, and training of highly competent radiologists and technologists.

 

4.   Objectives of the Department of Radio-Diagnosis

The objectives of the Department of Radio-Diagnosis are designed to support excellence in patient care, academic training, research, and skill development while adhering to institutional and national standards.


1.      To Provide High-Quality Diagnostic Services

The department aims to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic imaging services using modern radiological equipment. Emphasis is placed on patient safety, radiation protection, ethical practice, and cost-effective healthcare delivery.

 

2.      To Support Comprehensive Patient Management

Radiological investigations are performed in close coordination with clinical departments to assist in early diagnosis, disease monitoring, and treatment planning, thereby contributing to holistic patient care.

 

3.      To Promote Academic Excellence in Radiology Education

The department is committed to training undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma students through structured teaching programmes, case-based learning, seminars, and hands-on clinical exposure in all imaging modalities.

4.      To Encourage Research and Evidence-Based Practice

Faculty members and trainees are encouraged to participate in clinical and academic research, publish scholarly work, and contribute to the advancement of radiological sciences in accordance with ethical research standards.

4.      High-Resolution Ultrasound & Colour Doppler with Elastography

7.      Dedicated Interventional Radiology Suite enabling diagnostic and image-guided procedures

 

These facilities ensure comprehensive imaging capabilities in support of clinical services, academic education, and subspecialty PDCC training.


6. Research and Publications

The department actively promotes research, scholarly publications, and participation in national and international conferences. Faculty and trainees are encouraged to engage in academic research projects, enhancing evidence-based practice and contributing to the global radiology community.
