Thrust Areas of the Department of Radio-Diagnosis

The Department of Radio-Diagnosis, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, focuses on the following thrust areas, which guide its academic, clinical, and research activities in alignment with institutional objectives and national standards of medical education and healthcare delivery.

1.  Clinical Excellence in Diagnostic Imaging

The department places strong emphasis on delivering high-quality, accurate, and timely diagnostic imaging services across all major imaging modalities, including conventional radiography, ultrasonography, colour Doppler, mammography, computed tomography(CT), magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),and image-guided procedures. These services support effective clinical decision-making across medical and surgical specialties within the university hospital.

2.  Academic Training and Capacity Building

A key thrust area of the department is structured academic training for undergraduate and post graduate students. The department is actively involved in teaching MBBS students and postgraduate trainees enrolled in MD Radiodiagnosis and DMRD programmes.Academic activities are designed to strengthen theoretical knowledge, reporting skills, and clinical correlation. The department also aims to enhance advanced subspecialty training through proposed Post-Doctoral Certificate Courses (PDCC) in Musculoskeletal Radiology, Cardiovascular Radiology, and Interventional Radiology, in accordance with institutional norms.

3.  Research and Scholarly Activities

The department promotes research in diagnostic imaging and related clinical sciences with an emphasis on improving imaging protocols,diagnostic accuracy,and patient outcomes.Faculty members and postgraduate students are encouraged to undertake research projects, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in academic conferences, contributing to the advancement of radiological sciences.

4.  Patient-Centred Care and Safety

Patient safety, ethical practice, and qualityassurance form an essential thrust area of the department. Imaging services are delivered with due consideration to radiation safety principles, standard operating procedures, and patient comfort. The department integrates clinical responsibility with academic objectives to ensure responsible and compassionate patient care.

5.  Interdisciplinary and Collaborative Clinical Support

The department functions in close coordination with various clinical and surgical departments of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and its associated hospitals.This inter disciplinary collaboration supports comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, facilitates multidisciplinary case discussions, and strengthens integrated patient management.
