Prof. Dr. Sarfrazul Islam Kazmi possesses 29 years research experience in Entomology, with specialized expertise in Hymenoptera—a highly diverse insect order that includes key predators, parasitoids, and pollinators. Academic journey includes long-standing service at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), where he held multiple leadership roles, and his current position as Professor in the Department of Plant Protection at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

As insect taxonomist, Prof. Kazmi has described several new genera and species and recorded numerous taxa for the first time in India and different states. His core expertise spans important hymenopteran families such as Encyrtidae, Elasminae, Evaniidae, and Apidae. His extensive fieldwork across diverse ecosystems including the Thar Desert and the Western Ghats has contributed significantly to the documentation and understanding of India’s faunal diversity.

Prof. Kazmi has an impressive academic output comprising 137 publications, including two monographs, 70 research papers in national and international journals, and 51 book chapters. He has been actively involved in research projects funded by premier agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

In addition to his scientific achievements, Prof. Kazmi has over two decades of administrative experience at ZSI. He has served in key capacities such as In-charge of the Hymenoptera Section, Chief Grievance Officer, In-charge of Budget, Civil Construction Works, and Rajbhasha (Official Language), as well as Liaison Officer for EWS and OBC categories. He has also frequently acted as Director or Head of Office.

Prof. Kazmi is a member of several prestigious national and international scientific societies and the recipient of Fellowship of the Royal Entomological Society (U.K.) and Fellowship of the Zoological Society, Kolkata. He is an active reviewer for leading journals including Journal of Entomology and Zoology, Journal of Biodiversity and Systematics, Records of the Zoological Survey of India, Journal of Entomological Research Society (Türkiye), Oriental Insects, Journal of Hymenopteran Research, and Zoologischer Anzeiger.
