About the Department
Department of Shia Theology is a part of Faculty of Theology, AMU. It is one of the oldest Departments of A.M.U. Sir Syed established the Nizamat of Sunni and Shia Theology himself. The Department of Shia Theology is also unique in the way that it is the only specialized centre of Shia Studies in Indian Universities .As such is held in high esteem not only in India but also in Iran, Iraq and other countries
The Department has a rich history. Sir Syed established the Nizamat of Shia Theology himself. The Nizamats developed into teaching Faculty in 1960. It was headed by scholars of International repute. It had outstanding world famous scholars like like Allama Ali Naqi Naqvi, Allama Mujtaba Hasan Kamoonpuri, and Professor Maulana Kalbe Abid , who had hundreds of books published in various languages throughout world. Even now we have faculty members who have hundreds of papers and dozens of research work and books published in different languages in many countries and those who have participated in religious and Inter-Faith conferences in different countries
Every
year Department of Shia Theology is visited by very eminent personalities.
Among the eminent visitors have been Dr Haddad Adel, prominent Iranian
personality and Dr Ali Akbar Vilayati, long serving ex-Foreign Minister of Iran
and many others. Dr Khuzair Jafar Khuzai,
was Vice-President of Republic of Iraq is an alumnus
of this Department
The Department offers undergraduate, Postgraduate and research courses. The major areas of focus in the Department are
World Religions and their Scriptures
Aqaid and Shia Theological Foundations.
