National and International Seminar/Webinar


The academy organizes a yearly seminar on Sir Syed’s Contributions in diverse fields:


  • On 7th and 8th December 2020, Sir Syed Academy organized a Centenary International Webinar on the topic “The Establishment of Aligarh Muslim University and its Achievements 1920-2020. Around 50 academic papers on the achievements of AMU in various streams were presented in the event. Almost all Deans/Chairpersons represented their faculties and departments in the event. The proceedings of the vents will be published soon.

  • In 2018, a national seminar on Sir Syed’s contribution to National Integration and Inter-religious Understanding was organized.

Sir Syed Day / Sir Syed Book Exhibition

The academy commemorates the birth anniversary of the founder on 17 October every year as Sir Syed Day. On the same day an exhibition of books by / on Sir Syed and Aligarh Movement is organized.

Symposiums and Academic Events

On 26th January 2021, Sir Syed Academy organized an academic programme in which four books were released by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor: Aligarh Muslim University: A Short Introduction, Colonel Bashir Hussain Zaidi, Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum, Raja Jai Kishan Das, and Sir Ross Masood. Eminent scholars: Dr Muhammad Shahid, Prof. Farhatullah Khan, Prof. Naima Khatoon, Prof. Shakeel Samdani and Prof. Hakim Syed Zillur Rehman spoke on the merits and qualities of the books in the programme.      

On 16th November 2020, Sir Syed Academy organized an academic event in which six books were released by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tariq Mansoor: Maqalat-e-Sir Syed Vol I, Aligarh Muslim University Calendar – 1932, Tafheem e Sir Syed, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah (Papa Miyan), Justice Sir Shah Mohammad Sulaiman, and Moulvi Chiragh Ali. Distinguished academicians: Prof. Shafey Kidwai, Dr Muhammad Shahid, and Prof. A. R. Kidwai highlighted the significant aspects of the books in the event.
  

On 22nd July 2020, Sir Syed Academy organized an academic event in which two books and a calendar were released by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tariq Mansoor: The Gospel According to Sayyid Ahmad Khan (1817-1898), an annotated translation of Tabyin Al-Kalam, Sayyid Ahmad Khan: A Reinterpretation of Muslim Theology, and Calendar 1911-1912 of Mohammadan Anglo-Oriental College. Illustrious speakers: Prof. A. R. Kidwai, Dr. Rahat Abrar and Dr. Muhammad Shahid threw a light upon the peculiarities of the books in the programme.   

On 22nd February 2020, Sir Syed Academy organized an academic event in which four books were released by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor: The Life and Work of Syed Ahmad Khan, History of the M. A. O. College, Aligarh, Sir Syed ki Liberal, Secular aur Scienci Tarz e Fikr, and School ki Tareekh. Notable scholars: Prof. Iftikhar Alam Khan, Dr. Muhammad Shahid and Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi spoke on the major aspects of the books in the events. 


Sir Syed Memorial Lectures & Special Addresses

The Academy is also engaged in organizing special addresses and Sir Syed Memorial Lecture every year:

On 7th December 2020, Professor David Lelyveld (Professor, William Paterson University, 

USA) delivered a centenary keynote address on “The Establishment of Aligarh Muslim University”.


On 9th September 2020, Sir Syed Academy organized a Centenary Year Sir Syed Memorial 

Lecture-2020 in which Mr. N. N. Vohra (Former Governor, Jammu & Kashmir) delivered his 

address on “Governance- Responsibility of the Polity and the Public Services”.

In 2018-2019, Dr. Bebek Debroy, (eminent Indian economist, author and chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister) delivered the lecture on Revisiting Economic Reforms in India.  


In 2017, Professor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, (grandson of Mahatma Gandhi) delivered the lecture on Growth of Indian Economy since Independence.


In 2015, Mr. Rajen Habib Khwaja (former Secretary, Tourism, Government of India) delivered the lecture on Environmental Concerns and Strategies for Sustainable Development.
