Professor Nazura Usmani had been associated with the teaching of Diploma in Pisciculture and under graduate and post graduate (Chemical Biology, Aquaculture and Fish Biology) courses in the Department of Zoology, prior to induction as a permanent Faculty in the Women’s College (2006). She currently teaches Animal Ecology, Developmental Biology, Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates, Wild life Management and Conservation, Evolutionary Biology and Bioinformatics. Her research [at Aquatic Toxicology (Research) Laboratory, Department of Zoology] is focused on (a) Identification of water bodies influenced by anthropogenic activities at different locations (b) Impact of xenobiotics primarily heavy metals on the health of various warm and cold water fishes (as bioindicator) using biochemical, histological and molecular biomarkers (c) Immunotoxicity. Her team has the credit of sequence submission metallothionein CDS sequence (MK911726) from Wild Walking Catfish Clarias batrachus obtained from a culture pond. at NCBI. She has published over 35 papers in refereed journals including those in Environmental pollution, Scientific Reports (Nature), Chemosphere, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Toxicology & Pharmacology, Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, India, Section B Biological Sciences, Aquaculture Nutrition, Aquaculture Research , Journal of World Aquaculture Society., etc. with citations count 1539, H-index 24, and i10-index 28. She has supervised 4 Ph.D.'s, 2 undergraduate stem fellows and has present team of 3 scholars. She qualified UPSC, Assistant Director Fisheries (2006). She was awarded Stem Mentor Fellow Award Under US department of State (OHIO State University,INDO-US collaboration STEM (2017). Her team was awarded Prof. Mahdi Hasan Memorial Award for best experimental design. She has taken training in Genomics and Molecular biology. She has been a recipient of Junior Research Fellowship & Senior Research Fellowship funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Senior Research Fellowship under University fellowship, and Senior Research Fellowship funded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
