Dr.
Shadab Bano is Professor in History, Women's College, Aligarh
Muslim University. Her Ph.D. (from Centre of Advanced Study in History,
Aligarh Muslim University in 2003) is on 'The Socio-Economic Dimensions
of Medieval Indian Slavery.' The thrust area of her research besides
slavery in Medieval India lies in women and gender relations in medieval
India, women and Aligarh 'reform'. Her recent articles are in Studies
in History, Indian Journal of Gender Studies, and Economic and Political
Weekly. She received two awards for best papers presented in the
sessions of Indian History Congress and has 15 papers published alone in
the Proceedings of Indian History Congress. She has served as a UGC
Trainer Associate in Capacity Building Workshops for Women Managers in
Higher Education. She is supervising research on women and gender in elite Muslim society in medieval north India, courtly culture and
socio-political life during the Sultanate, cities of Delhi under Sultans,
gender and identity construction in Muslim religious schools. She is
presently Joint Secretary of the Indian Association of Women's Studies
and coordinator of the IAWS Northern Regional Committee.
