URDU ACADEMY

(CENTRE FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF URDU TEACHERS)


INTRODUCTION


The Government of India took a leading step towards promotion of Urdu Language and uplifment of  the standard of Urdu and Urdu Medium Teaching in the country. As a result three Centres for Professional Development of Urdu Teachers were sanctioned and established by the UGC (vide letter No.F.49-3/2004(CU) dated October 30, 2006) at  the Aligarh Muslim University (Aligarh), Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi) and Maulana Azad National Urdu University (Hyderabad). The jurisdiction of each of these Centres has also been fixed. The Centre at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh shall have  the responsibility of Urdu Medium Schools including Madrasas and those schools where Urdu is taught as first, second and third language, in Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa.


The project to establish a "Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Teachers", submitted by Aligarh Muslim University on 8th October 2006  and was approved by University Grants Commission vide letter No.F.49-3/2004(CU) dated 30th October 2006.


The project submitted by  the University envisages that the "purpose of conducting in-service education programmes is to professionally empower all teachers of Urdu Medium Schools in their respective subjects / areas, skill in translation and understanding the society and the students" Academy started functioning in the month of October 2006, itself.
