We are happy and proud that the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, JNMC, AMU, Aligarh is completing 57th year of its establishment. The department was established in 1964 under the able leadership of Prof S Mohsin as the Chairman. The department started with its office in a building in the main University Campus while the clinical work and teaching were carried out at the Lady Dufferin Hospital (now Mohan Lal Gautam Hospital) in the centre of the Aligarh city. The Department was shifted to its present location in 1970 and continued to expand since then. In the year 2000, a new labour room complex was added, followed by the OBG Block in April 2017.
With newer extensions the bed strength of the department scaled upto 186.
Currently we have seven well equipped operation theatres,
 a receiving room with triaging area with pre-labour room complex, a well equipped Labour room, high risk pregnancy room,  separate antenatal, post partum ward, gynaecology and post operative ward
Initial two bedded obstetric high-dependency unit was upgraded to ten bedded
high-dependency 
and Intensive Care Unit in OBG Block in 2019 with all the latest facilities for intensive monitoring and critical obstetrical care.
 
The
Artificial Reproductive Technologies (ART)
 Unit of the department was established in 2017, which is the first Government ART facility of western U.P & Second in U.P, delivering services especially to the under privileged population. We have two upcoming facilities namely 
Assisted reproductive technology center (ART) and a 100 bedded MCH-Wing. Many sub-speciality divisions of the department regularly run “Sub-Speciality Clinics” on specific days of the week. 

Since the time of its inception, department has produced alumni of National and International repute. Department has always strived to maintain the standards of teaching and training of Undergraduates, Postgraduates and Para-Medical staff. The members are actively involved in several National programmes like JSY, JSSK, CEmONC. Members of the faculty are actively involved in various national bodies like FOGSI, UPCOG, UPSAGOI, working for the welfare of women. The members are also invited by prestigious bodies like NMC, UPSC, National Board as assessors, advisors and examiners.

The department acknowledges invaluable contributions of Prof S Mohsin, Dr R Rizvi, Prof K Saxena, Prof K Tiwari, Prof Z Arshad, Prof R Sharma, Prof. Noor Afshan Sabzopsh and Prof.Imam Bano at different stages of development.

The department of OBG strives to be a regional leader in training healthcare professionals competent to provide medical care of international standards but in a regional context, and in alignment with our national goals.

We strive to nurture an academic and patient care environment conducive to acquiring and imparting high-quality education, conducting innovative scientific research and providing promotive, preventive and curative community services in an empathetic, humanistic and ethical manner.

                                                   Objectives 

    • We, at the dept of OBG, JNMC reiterate our commitment to achieve a reduction in maternal mortality in alignment with the national goals.
  • Our department therefore strives to be a centre of excellence for providing care to patients and training to healthcare workers for CEmONC.
  • We realise the importance of family planning services in reducing MMR and improving the quality of life and hence offer round the clock services and training for the same.
  • We focus on preventive healthcare services especially in the field of antenatal care and oncology through designing and executing not only institution based but also population-based outreach programmes, especially for the socially and economically disadvantaged class.
  • We recognise the importance of embracing technological advancements for providing state of the art patient care and teaching-learning activities and adopt and promote the use of the same.
  • We promise a safe and clean institutional delivery in a comfortable and friendly environment.

Facilities/ Services provided:

The services provided by Obstetrics and Gynaecology are as follows:

1.    Daily two OPDs ( Gynae and ANC) between 9:00 PM to 3:00 PM. 

2.    Specialty OPD between 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

              Oncology OPD - Monday and Wednesday

              Fetal Medicine OPD - Thursday

             • Infertility OPD - Tuesday

             • Menopause and Urogynaecology OPD - Monday and Friday


3.     Following services are available 24x7 on all days including national holidays.              

               Emergency services including inter-disciplinary consultation

               Deliveries and Cesarean sections

               Major and Minor procedure related to obstetrics

               Cardiotocography

               Ultrasonography

               Family planning services

4.   Gynaecological surgeries on OT days designated for faculty.

5.    Diagnostics and Operative Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy 

6.    Colposcopy 

7.  Infertility management and ART services 

                                           

Patient Care Statistics

We maintain a strict and meticulous record of all patient care-related data and periodically review and audit the same and provide inputs to the national databases for reflection and future planning. Our statistics show consistent improvement which reflects well on the quality of care we provide.
