Dr. Mohammad Atif presents a lecture at an international conference

Dr. Mohammad Atif, Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Dr. Z.A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University delivered a lecture at the recently concluded International Conference of the South Asian Association of Pediatric Dentistry, held in Hyderabad.

In his presentation, Dr Atif highlighted the applications of Finite element analysis in Pediatric dentistry and its future in dental research.

He also conducted a session as a resource person in a three-day workshop on "Systematic reviews and meta-analysis in dental research" at Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi held on March 4-6, 2024, which aimed at providing training to the participants with the knowledge of modern dental practices and helping them carry out high-quality research.

The chairperson, Prof. Saima Yunus Khan appreciated Dr. Atif's achievement, stating that dentists and researchers must stay abreast with the use of emerging technologies in dental research. Understanding systematic reviews is important because the compilation of multiple studies can be used to enhance and improve patient care, she added.

 


Best poster award won by a JR-I

Dr. Elsy Antony, a Junior Resident-I in the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Dr. Z.A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University received the Best Poster Award at the recently concluded 20th National Postgraduate Convention of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, ‘Pedodales 2024’, held at Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Prof Saima Yunus Khan, Chairperson of the department congratulated Dr. Antony for the achievement and said it is the first time since the starting of the postgraduate course in the department in the year 2017 that such an honour has been brought to it.

 


First copyright from the Government of India for her work on dental caries

Prof Saima Yunus Khan, Chairperson, Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Dr. Z.A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded the Copyright by the Government of India for her original innovative work on an evidence based Indian Caries Risk Assessment tool for the children up to 6 years of age.

She started to work on the project in 2021, on receiving the John Clarkson Fellowship from the Prestigious International Association for Dental Research. Being the first Indian to receive this fellowship, she worked in collaboration with Dr. Gerald Niznick, College of Dentistry, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences University of Manitoba, Canada.

According to Dr. Saima, the CRA tool would be beneficial to the Indian children as it addresses the risk factors of early childhood caries of Indian preschoolers. It’s a small compact tool form which can be used with ease by the masses in hospital or field settings.

The Dean, Faculty of Medicine and the Principal, J.N. Medical College, Prof Veena Maheshwari, and the Principal, Dr. Z. A. Dental College & Hospital, Prof R.K. Tewari congratulated Prof. Saima on her exemplary achievement.

Oral health education programmes conducted in various schools of Aligarh

NEWS AND PUBLICATION OF THE DEPARTMENT

1.Conducted Dental Health Education programme in Aligarh and Mahamayanagar districts, covering 37 schools and educating 18978 students.

2.Conducted Oral health check up and imparted oral hygiene instructions to 180 students of Blossoms Public School on 7th Feb 2013.

3. Celebrated Oral Hygiene Day by conducting oral health check up and imparting health education to 80 students of Ayesha Tareen Public School (2013).

4. Conducted Oral health check up and School Dental Health education at Green Crescent Public School on 13th November 2017, covering 500 school children.

5. Conducted Dental Health Education and school preventive programme at Blossomâ??s Public school on 27th April 2018, covering 200 school children.

6. Conducted Dental Health Education and school preventive programme at Govt.Primary School, Dhorra Mafi on 7th May 2018 , covering 173 school children.

7. Conducted Oral health check up and treatment of 472 prison inmates of District Jail of Aligarh on 3rd August 2018.

8.Conducted Oral health check up and imparted oral hygiene instructions to 103 pre nursery students of Blossoms Public School on 7th and 8th August 2018.

9. Conducted School Preventive Programme and Oral health check up of 450 school children of First to Fifth Standards of Abdullah Girls School, Aligarh Muslim University on 24th and 26th November 2018.

10. Organized Oral Health Week from 14th November 2018 to 30th November 2018,covering more than 1000 children from different schools, who were examined and dental health education imparted to them.
