Professor Mohammad Akram completed his MBBS from King George Medical University, Lucknow, in 2005 and his MD in Radiotherapy from JK Cancer Institute, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, in 2009. He joined the Department of Radiotherapy at JN Medical College, AMU, in 2010 as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2015, and became Professor in 2019.

Professor Akram's interest lie in cancer research, with a particular focus on the intricate relationship between the microbiome and cancer. He is presently leading two pivotal clinical trials funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). These trials aim to elucidate the effects of chemoradiation therapy on the human microbiome and explore whether probiotics can alleviate the side effects associated with such treatments. Furthermore, his work includes metagenomics studies to characterize the dysbiosis associated with gastrointestinal cancers.

He is also a core member of Cancer Nanomedicine Consortium, a multidisciplinary platform of cancer research at AMU.

In addition, Professor Akram currently oversees the Population-Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) and the Hospital-Based Cancer Registry (HBCR) programs of the National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR), ICMR.

Beyond his professional endeavors, he harbors a profound passion for literature, seamlessly blending linguistic creativity with scientific inquiry. He firmly believes that the fusion of science and art unlocks a plethora of knowledge creation. He channels his creative expression through poetry and stories.
