Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall of Aligarh Muslim University is a Hall of residence for girls with the capacity of accommodating 1500 female students.


‘Hard work always pays off’ is quite true in the context of Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall. Professor Subuhi Khan was appointed as Provost on 25th of August 2018. She took charge of the administrative duties at a time when even the infrastructural facilities were yet to be completed. The First Meeting for the purpose of making the Hall functional was held on 27th August, 2018 under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor. The meeting was attended by the Registrar, DSW, Proctor, Provost and other important officials of the University. After careful deliberations and on the request of the Provost, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor sanctioned an adequate amount for the purchase of essential items for the Hall.


Initially, all administrative works were carried out from the Office Chamber of Professor Subuhi Khan at the Department of Mathematics. The Provost Office of the Hall became functional on 1st November, 2018. Registrar, Mr. Abdul Hamid, IPS held several meetings with the Provost and other officials of the University in the Hall. The Provost, with the support and cooperation of the Vice Chancellor, Registrar and other officials of the University took all the necessary steps for making the Hall functional in shortest possible time. No stone was left unturned to provide the best possible facilities for the overall development of the Resident Students.


Block–II of the Hall became functional with Mess and other required facilities on 10th January, 2019 with two Resident Wardens and ten Resident Students. Later, around 700 Graduate and Post Graduate Students from Indira Gandhi Hall were shifted in three Hostels of Block-II.  On the other hand, the construction work of Block-I was under process at that time. The Hall became fully functional in February, 2020 and Medical Students and Research Scholars from Sarojini Naidu Hall were shifted to Block-I of the Hall.


On 1st April, 2019 the Hall got its name, Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall, after the name of the beloved mother of the Founder of the University, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The names of six Hostels of the Hall were also approved on the same date. The Hall was formerly inaugurated on 19th September, 2019. Block- I consists of three Hostels viz., Sikandar Jahan Begum Hostel, Hamida Habibullah Hostel and Kadambini Ganguly Hostel. Block-II consists of three Hostels viz., Begum Hazrat Mahal Hostel, Annie Besant Hostel and Madam Cama Hostel.


The Hall provide various facilities which include Dining Hall (food served to the residents is of good quality and cooked with proper hygiene), Hostel Accommodation, Laundry, Wi-Fi, Generator, Air-conditioned Reading Rooms, Common Room, Computer Room, Prayer Rooms, Geysers, Water Coolers with Purifiers, Indoor-Outdoor Gymnasium, ATM etc. Heartfelt attempts are made to provide an excellent infrastructure and beautiful eco-friendly environment to the Resident Students. The Provost and Wardens try their level best to ensure a comfortable stay for the students away from their homes. A special feature of the Hall is a friendly infrastructure for everyone. Ramps are constructed to help students who use wheelchairs.


From 15th August, 2020 a massive Plantation Drive (0 – 1000 Trees) was started in the Hall. At present the Hall has more than one thousand trees, plants, herbs, shrubs, ornamental plants etc. The Hall also developed Herbal Garden, Kitchen Garden, Fruit Garden and an Open-Air Reading Corner. One of the remarkable achievements in the Hall is the establishment of the ‘Herbal Garden’. The Herbal Garden provides a wide variety of plant species consisting of various medicinal herbs and shrubs. The Herbal Garden was inaugurated by Dr. Hameeda Tariq (Renowned Paediatrician) on 28th November, 2020. Herbal Garden is the result of consistent efforts that are being put to enrich the flora and fauna of the University so that it can be a role model for others to follow. The six Hostels of the Hall were inaugurated on 15th August 2021 by Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. On the same day, he also inaugurated the Plantation Drive with more than thousand trees. 


Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall has the maximum accommodation capacity of around 1500 female students. The details of the Courses and Faculties of the Resident Students of the Hall are mentioned below:
