Brief History

AMU City Girls’ High School, situated in the heart of Aligarh in Mohalla Qazi Para, has a rich history dating back to its beginnings as a small primary school in Society Garden in the late 19th century. For a very long time it was popularly known as Chaman School.

The school’s current premise was generously donated by the late Abdul Majeed Khwaja, a prominent citizen of Aligarh and a key figure within the University. His father, Khwaja Mohammad Yousuf, was a close associate of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and played a pivotal role in establishing the university.

Supported by the university over the decades, the school has steadily expanded. In 1992, under the management of Prof. Shamim Ahmad, it gained independent status and was renamed A.M.U. City Girls' High School (Qazi Para).

Currently, the school serves the educational needs of nearly 1,000 students, providing quality education in Urdu, with a focus on uplifting underprivileged community. The majority of these students come from financially and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. Until the 2019-20 academic year, the school admitted both boys and girls up to Class II; however, starting from the 2020-21 session, it became exclusively a girls' school (Class I to X).

To support the school’s ongoing growth and evolving needs, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor has graciously approved an extension of the building and infrastructure, furthering our mission to serve the community.

The school focuses on providing quality education and support tailored to the needs of students from underprivileged backgrounds and first-generation learners. This includes fostering an inclusive environment, offering additional resources, and implementing programs that encourage academic achievement and personal development. The aim is to empower these students, helping them overcome barriers to education and inspiring them to pursue higher educational opportunities. The school emphasizes on encouraging students to strive for higher academic achievement while actively involving them in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
