The department of Periodontia & Community Dentistry was established in 2000. The department has two section i.e. Periodontics & Community Dentistry. The department is engaged in the teaching of Periodontics & Public Health Dentistry to Undergraduate students. The MDS course in the subject of Periodontics with intake capacity of 03 seats per year was introduced in year 2008 which was recognized by DCI & Ministry of Health & Medical education in year 2011. Besides imparting the teaching to undergraduate & postgraduate students, the department is running 2 years full time Dental Hygiene course which is also recognized by the Dental Council of India.

                                                                                                             The average yearly OPD of the Periodontics clinic has drastically increased from the year 2001. The average present department OPD is more than 1800 per month. Public Health Dentistry section of this department has one Rural Health Centre in the village Jawan,2O Kms from Aligarh City ,having one dental units and one Urban Health Centre at Qila road, Aligarh with one Dental unit. This section of the department is organizing the Dental Health awareness & treatment Camps both in Rural and Urban areas to make the masses aware about oral diseases & to provide the basic oral Health needs of the resident population. The department imparts excellent clinical and academic skills to undergraduates and postgraduates. 

The department consists of latest equipment like implant units, dental operating microscopes, piezo surgical units, lasers etc. The department provides various treatment facilities like scaling, root planning, splinting, gingivectomy, flap surgeries, mucogingival surgeries and dental implants. The department is involved in many research projects and has many publications in national and international journals.
