The Department of Periodontia & Community Dentistry, established in 2000, is a pioneering institution dedicated to advancing periodontal care and public health dentistry. Comprising two sections, Periodontics and Community Dentistry (Public Health Dentistry), the department is committed to educating undergraduate and postgraduate students and providing comprehensive dental care to the community.
Educational Endeavours:
Since its inception, the department has been instrumental in teaching Periodontics and Public Health Dentistry to undergraduate students. In 2008, we introduced the MDS course in Periodontics (3 seats/ year), expanding to include Public Health Dentistry in 2023 (1 seat/year). Additionally, we offer a two-year full-time Dental Hygiene course recognized by the Dental Council of India.
Clinical Outreach:
Our departmental clinics have experienced a substantial increase in patient visits since 2001, with an average monthly OPD exceeding 2000. We extend our services beyond the campus, operating a Rural Health Centre in Jawan Village and an Urban Health Centre at Qila Road, Aligarh. Furthermore, we've established a MAS University Health Centre satellite centre to serve students and faculty. Through dental health awareness and treatment camps, we strive to address the oral health needs of rural and urban populations.
Clinical Excellence:
Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as implant units, dental operating microscopes, piezo surgical units, and lasers, our department offers a wide range of treatments, including comprehensive dental care , scaling, root planning, splinting, gingivectomy, flap surgeries, mucogingival surgeries, and dental implants. Our commitment to excellence extends to research, with active involvement in numerous projects and publications in national and international journals.
