Dr. Moid Rasheedi (Abdul Moid) is a well-known Urdu poet, scholar, and literary critic whose work has gained national and international recognition. Born in 1988 in Kankinara, Kolkata, India, he is considered one of the most influential voices in contemporary Urdu poetry. His writing brings together classic literary depth with modern ideas, creating a unique style in Urdu poetry.
Dr. Rasheedi’s academic background is impressive. He earned his Master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), M.Phil from the University of Delhi, and Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). His Ph.D. was self-guided as a teacher candidate, showing his ability to independently research and analyze literary themes.
His passion for poetry started in his school days, and over the years, he refined his writing, combining philosophy and Urdu poetry. His work balances traditional ideas with new perspectives, helping to expand the understanding of Urdu literature.
Outside academia, Dr. Rasheedi has worked in electronic media, spending three years at All India Radio (AIR) and DD Urdu, engaging audiences with his deep understanding of poetry.
Additionally, he worked as a Research Assistant at the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, where he helped in archival research and literary projects to promote Urdu literature.
He has researched modern literary ideas and reinterpreted classical poets like Wahshat Kalkatvi and Momin Khan Momin, offering fresh insights into Urdu poetic traditions. He has authored seven books, with Takhliq, Takh-eel, aur Istiaara earning widespread acclaim and establishing him as a pioneering voice in contemporary Urdu literature. His scholarly work on Momin Khan Momin has garnered respect in academic circles, enriching university curricula. His poetic collections, AAKHIRI KINAARE PAR (ghazals) in Urdu and ISHQ in Hindi, published by the Rekhta Foundation, explore emotions, philosophy, and human experiences in a beautiful and meaningful way.
For his literary excellence, he has received many prestigious awards, including:
· Sajjad Zaheer & Razia Sajjad Zaheer Merit Award – JNU (2010)
· Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar – National Academy of Letters, New Delhi (2013)
· Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad Yuva Puraskar Samman – Recognizing his contributions to Urdu literature (2025)
These awards highlight his important role in shaping Urdu poetry.
Dr. Rasheedi regularly participates in Mushairas across India and abroad, where his poetry touches hearts and leaves a lasting impression. His verses carry deep meanings, blending philosophy with poetic beauty.
As an Assistant Professor in the Urdu Department at AMU, he continues to teach, mentor, and inspire students and fellow poets. His work brings new life to Urdu poetry, exploring themes of human emotions, philosophy, and modern perspectives.
Dr. Moid Rasheedi’s poetry and writings combine old traditions with new ideas, making him a leading voice in modern Urdu literature. His words connect deeply with readers, exploring the emotions, challenges, and beauty of life.
With his passion for poetry, deep knowledge, and creative thinking, he continues to inspire future generations, ensuring Urdu poetry remains rich, relevant, and celebrated across time.
