COUNSELING PROGRAMME ORGANIZED BY THE DISABILITY UNIT IN THE WOMEN’S COLLEGE 7th Oct. 2024
The Disability Unit (Centre for Disability & Rehabilitation Studies) has organized a Counseling Programme for the students (PwD) of the Women’s College, AMU on 7th Oct. 2024. The Disability Unit has decided to organize the series of Counseling Programmes in the Schools of Aligarh Muslim University. The Counseling Programme held in the Women’s college is the first in series. The aim of the counseling programme was to sensitizing these students for their rights and various provisions of the RPwD Act 2016 which has already adopted by the Aligarh Muslim University. Prof. Masud Anwar Alavi, The Principal of the Women’s College; Prof. Manvendra Kumar Pundhir, Coordinator; Dr. Fazila Shahnawaz, Deputy Coordinator; Dr. Shagufta Niyaz , Counselor/ Placement Officer have participated in the counseling programme and interacted with the students with disabilities. Twelve students with disabilities studying in different courses in Women’s College have participated and discussed at length their problems and understanding about their rights provided under the act. Dr. Shagufta Niyaz played a crucial role in organizing the programme in the Women’s college.
A number of the volunteers have also attended the programme and they also discussed the various intricacies dealing with the students with disabilities. The coordinator has emphasized the role and contributions of these volunteers in the life of these students. Appreciation certificates have been also distributed to the volunteers in recognition of their services. The Principal of Women’s College delivered the vote of thanks to conclude the programme. Ms. Shivani Saraswat, Research Scholar; Eshaana and Priya have played an important role in the in the successful organization the programme. The Coordinator has duly acknowledged their contribution.
