NSS Symbol

The Emblem of NSS is based on the "Rath" wheel of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. This giant wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release. And signify the movement in life across time and space. It also stands for dynamism and progressive outlook of youth.

The Konark wheel in the emblem has eight-bars, which represent Eight Pahars in the cycle of 24 hours of the day. Hence, the Badge rewinds the wearer to be readdress for service of the Nations round the clock, i.e. for 24 hours. The red color in the Badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood, i.e. lively, active energic and full of high spirit. The Navy blue color indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
