World Environment Day Celebration , 2023



On the direction of Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change Government of India, a detailed schedule was prepared to organize world environment day on 1st and 5th June 2023 which focused on creating awareness about the various environmental issues. A special committee was constituted at the Departmental level comprising Dr. Faiza Ismail and Ms. Adiba Aasif for the successful organizing of the program.

The event was started by Dr. Faiza Ismail where she reminded that the responsibility to protect our environment lies in the hand of each and every one of us. She also emphasized the role of biochemistry in empowering us with the tools of bioremediation, importance of biodegradable plastics, and bio-waste materials.


The first day of the celebration began with the Nukkad Natak performed by the students of MBBS admitted batch 2022 along with Research scholar of the department.

In Nukkad Natak : The students beautifully depicted through various scenes how human activities are posing unprecedented challenges and putting the future of our generation at risk. They further pledged to protect the mother earth and do whatever best they can to safeguard it.

The program was concluded by insightful and inspiring words by honorable Chairperson Prof. Khushtar A. Salman. She appreciated the efforts of the participants and the organizing team members for beautifully delivering the message of World Environment Day.

The event was attended by all the faculty members, Research Scholars, Tutors, Junior Residents and the Non-Teaching Staff of the Department.

The Second Day of the celebration was compered by Dr. Faiza Ismail and Adiba Aasif with an encouragement to unite everyone to protect and preserve the beauty and vitality of our planet.The events held on the Second day were as follows:

Debate: The topic of debate proposition was “Biochemical Innovations are crucial for tackling plastic pollution and achieving a plastic free future”.There was an enlightening and stimulating clash of views among the students.

Poster Making: On the topic “Eco Warriors Unite: Protecting our planet on World Environment Day” The program was concluded by encouraging words from Dr. Abul Faiz Faizy. The winners were awarded with certificates by the Panel of judges, (Dr. Abul Faiz Faizy and Dr. Safia Habib).

The whole Department of Biochemistry, JNMC, and AMU Aligarh realized the importance of such an event.

Extension Lecture

Dr. Sonish Azam, Ph.D. Biochemistry, Senior Medical Science, liaison (Oncology), Kyowa kirin, Canada has delivered a talk in the Department on the title "Ethics- The human component of medical science" on 24th February, 2023.
