Brief History of the Department

Its journey started in 1993 when B.Sc. (Hons) in Industrial Chemistry started as a vocational program. The M.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry program started in 1996 under the coordinatorship of Prof. Firoz Ahmad who worked hard to reach it to its newer heights. Professors Mohd. Mushfiq, Rafiuddin and Abdur Rauf have later joined as coordinators of these programs of Industrial Chemistry and did their best.

In 2012 in a meeting of Board of Studies it was unanimously passed to have a separate department of Industrial Chemistry. However it could not be processed for unknown reasons. In 2014, Prof. Anees Ahmad took a bold decision and joined as Professor of Industrial Chemistry by sacrificing his seniority of 10 years and started the efforts for the creation of the department. The then Vice Chancellor Mr. Zameeruddin Shah agreed for the proposal and gave a green signal to the project. The matter was passed by different bodies of the University such as Faculty meeting, Academic Council, Executive Council, University Court and the Finance Committee and finally sent to MHRD/UGC in 2017.

The matter could not proceed and Prof. Qazi Mazhar, then Dean Faculty of Science, has taken special interest and persuaded the Vice Chancellor to get it done. The present Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor has taken keen interest in it and got it done by taking personal interest and efforts.
