The primary objective of any community mental health program is to provide much-needed direct clinical care to the mentally ill. From this basic program there follows a natural development of consultative and educational community programs. Society as a whole remains largely unaware of psychological and psychiatric problems impacting them at personal, social and occupational levels. Department of Psychiatry of JN Medical College, AMU, Aligarh has been catering to the mental health needs of community through various awareness programs and mental health camps. The periodically organized programs provide high-quality clinical and educational services in Psychiatry with the goal of building mental health service capacity in outreach areas. Through qualified psychiatrists and professional counsellors at the helm of these programs’ macro survey of peoples’ mental health status are done regularly and needful intervention aimed at alleviating mental health problems provided to them.
