Inauguration of
Addiction Treatment Facility at JNMCH, Aligarh Muslim University
Aligarh, August 20, 2025 – The Department of Psychiatry at Jawaharlal
Nehru Medical College (JNMCH), Aligarh Muslim University, inaugurated its
state-of-the-art Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) on August 20, 2025, at the
Psychiatry OPD/IPD premises. Supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment, Government of India, under the National Action Plan for Drug
Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), this facility enhances JNMCH’s efforts to combat
substance use disorders through comprehensive de-addiction services, including
outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) care, and free medications, with a focus
on alcohol and opioid use disorders.
The ceremony, hosted by Dr. Shreya Agarwal, was attended by Prof.
Mohammad Habib Raza, Dean and Principal, Faculty of Medicine, JNMCH, as Chief
Guest, and Prof. Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Medical Superintendent, JNMCH, as Guest
of Honor. Dr. Mohammed Reyazuddin, Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry,
delivered a welcome address, expressing gratitude to the previous Chairman,
Principal, and the Ministry for their support, and acknowledging the pivotal
role of Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor, for her unwavering support in
establishing the ATF. Dr. Faisal Shaan presented the facility’s services,
highlighting specialized OPD and IPD care and free medications for alcohol and
opioid use disorders.
The event included the felicitation of the ATF’s newly recruited staff,
comprising five nursing staff, two counsellors, and one data manager, who will
ensure high-quality care. Prof. Raza and Prof. Rizvi praised the Department of
Psychiatry’s proactive approach and emphasized the importance of accessible
deaddiction services. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr.
Jitendra Kumar and the formal inauguration of the ATF.
The ATF at JNMCH is equipped with modern resources and staffed by
dedicated professionals offering evidence-based interventions, counseling, and
rehabilitation. Addiction treatment facility is available at OPD 8 from 8 AM to
3 PM, providing accessible care to patients and their families, aligning with
Aligarh Muslim University’s mission of excellence in healthcare and community
service.
