Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, holds a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Geography from the same department. His doctoral research focused on land use studies, with an emphasis on spatial transformation and sustainable land management. To augment his technical proficiency, he has also completed specialized certificate courses in Remote Sensing and GIS in Environmental Studies from AMU, and an outreach program on Remote Sensing, GIS, and Global Navigation Satellite System conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), ISRO, Department of Space, Government of India.
With academic interests spanning Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) studies, Remote Sensing applications, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, and Economic Geography, Dr. Siddiqui has made significant scholarly contributions through research papers, journal articles, and book chapters published in nationally and internationally reputed journals and edited volumes.
He has authored the monograph Agricultural Land Utilization in Ganga Basin and compiled the General Index of The Geographer (1948–2018). Additionally, he has edited two major academic volumes: Sustainable Development Goal and National Education Policy 2020 and Climate Vulnerability and Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Siddiqui is presently serving as Project Director for a major research project sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), titled “Socio-Economic Conditions of Slum Dwellers in Aligarh City with Special Reference to Indoor and Outdoor Environment”. He has earlier served as Co-Project Director for another ICSSR-funded project on “Socio-Economic Development and Regional Disparity in Uttar Pradesh.”
A seasoned academic with more than twenty-one years of editorial experience as Assistant Editor of The Geographer, he has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences, symposia, and seminars—both as a presenter and as a chair/co-chair of technical sessions. He has also delivered invited lectures and served as a resource person in teacher training programs and interdisciplinary forums.
Beyond academia, Dr. Siddiqui is also deeply engaged in literary, spiritual, and cultural scholarship. He has authored several books on spiritualism and mysticism, including biographies of renowned Sufi saints, and has edited volumes of the annual religious journal Ahle Sunnat Ki Awaaz. He is a founder member of the Al-Barkaat Educational Society and actively contributes to educational development through various institutional roles, including academic administration, curriculum development, and student mentorship.
Through his multi-dimensional contributions in teaching, research, and community engagement, Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui continues to uphold a vision of inclusive, interdisciplinary, and socially relevant geographical scholarship.
