Dr
Pankaj Parashar has been teaching Graduate and Post Graduate courses and has
been guided M.Phil dissertation and PhD thesis. His area of interest is
Literary Criticism, Contemporary Fiction, Bhakti & Modern Poetry. He has
been teaching Criticism, Contemporary Literary Discourse, Early Hindi Poems and
Bhakti Literature. He also has an interest in Subaltern Literature, Black
Literature, Indian Classical Music and South Asian Politics. He has attended
several national and international conferences/seminars on related topics. He
has taught at Vasanta College for Women, Varanasi affiliated with Banaras Hindu
University (BHU). After that, he switched over to Journalism. His books
published until now are 'Punarwachan', 'Rachana Ka Samajik Path', 'Kavita Key Prashna Aur Pratimaan' and 'Vivechana Key Rang'. A collection of his
commentaries, 'Salim Key Shanidev' has also been published. A book of Criticism
"Vidyapati: Aakhyan Aur Upnivesh" is soon to be published. Along with
original writings, he had done enough translations as well. 'Govadh Aur Angrez'
(English to Hindi), 'Maithil Kavita Sanchayan' (Maithili to Hindi) and 'Herayal
Arth' (Punjabi to Maithili) are his translated works which are respectively
published by Vani Prakashan, National Book Trust, India and Sahitya Akademi,
New Delhi. A translated work 'Claude Levi Strauss: Seven Essays' is under
publication.
He has translated works of eminent poets like Claude Mckay,
Langston Hughes, Ken Saro Wiwa, Paul Eluard, Rainer Maria Rilke, Sadi Yusuf,
Nazim Hikmat, etc. Other than this, he has also translated the research
articles of Eberhard Fisher, Haku Shah and Bruce Chatwin. He has translated the
unobtainable and extinct lecture of the renowned critic, Namwar Singh,
'Unnisween Sadi Ka Hindi Navjaagran: Yathaarth Ya Mithak' from English, in the
very style of Namwar Singh himself. Two of his poetry collections 'Samay Key
Akanait' and 'Vilambit Kaik Yug Mein Nibaddh' and a novel 'Jal-Prantar' are
published in Maithili. A Hindi poetry collection 'Dant-Kathaon Mein Striyaan'
is in the process of publication. He is recently being awarded the Devi Shankar
Awasthi Award for contribution to Hindi criticism for his book 'Kavita Ke
Prashna Aur Pratiman' published in the year 2016. He has been honoured with two
prestigious literary awards for his contribution to contemporary Maithili Poems
(Maheshwari Singh Mahesh Granth Puraskar & Yatri Puraskar) and got Research
Award 2016-18 also by the UGC, Delhi. He has been an Associate Fellow at the Indian
Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla from 2014 to 2018.
He is a Member of
the Advisory Board of Maithili language and literature, Sahitya Akademi
(National Akademi of letters, Ministry of Culture, Government of India) New
Delhi from 2018 to 2023. Besides, he is also a member of the Global Initiative
of Academic Network (GIAN), Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Besides, Dr
Parashar was a short-term Fellow in November 2018 at the South Asia Institute,
University of Heidelberg, Germany. He has visited many countries with
educational work.
