Area of specialization: Professor Naeem Ahmad Khan is active in multi-dimensional research on drugs and principles of Ilmul Advia including extensive pioneering review of classical literature, making of correlation between classical and modern scientific descriptions and chemical standardization and improvement of pharmaceutical processes. Prof. Khan has made pioneering contribution by establishing the identity of many effective Unani drugs fallen in disuse and by making a comprehensive and systematic description of most of the Unani drugs of mineral origin. Prof. Khan has standardized the methodology of Pharmaco-clinical evaluation of Murakkabat (Compound Formulation) of Unani Medicine. Prof. Khan has also developed the methodology for systematic pharmaco-clinical study of many single/compound drugs of Unani Medicine which are claimed to possess' important pharmacological effects. (A) The significant contribution in Hepatitis to explore their protective, curative and regenerative potential specifically in Hepatitis B the clinical study of 4 drug regime (compound drug) successfully carried out in Hepatitis B patient for its clearance of Hepatitis B virus. The positive cases of HbSAg were takenup for clinical study/treatment and after the treatment all the patients were negative with Hepatoprotective effect. The study is still continued for validation of evidence based herbal (unani) medicine for elimination of Hepatitis B. (B) Some other thrust areas that Prof. Khan has taken up for the studies (i) Antioxidant, (ii) Antiparkinsonism, (iii) Hypoglycemic, (iv) Anti-arthritic, (v) Adaptogens (Omega-3 containing herbs) and (vi) Sexual function improver.
