A new chapter of educational enlightenment was added to the culturally enriched soil of Bengal with the establishment of Aligarh Muslim University Centre, Murshidabad in 2010. The Centre, accredited by NAAC in A+ grade, is empowered by Section 5(2) (C) of the AMU (Amendment) Act, 1981 and under Section 12(2) of the University Act. [Act XL 1920 and AMU (Amendment) Act, 1972].

Two major milestones were achieved in the year 2016 on the academic front. The Centre successfully got its B.Ed course inspected by National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) in February 2016. The Bar Council of India (BCI) inspection team visited the campus on August 16, 2016, for inspecting the five years integrated BALLB course. Both these inspections have added credibility to the courses offered and have also enhanced the reputation of the Centre as an important seat of higher learning in the region.

The Centre is located in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal which served as the capital city of the Nawabs of Bengal. Murshidabad being a historical place is replete with numerous historical and tourist spots.

Spread over an area of 288 acres of land, the Centre is divided into two plots by an irrigation canal. It is located nearly 40km from Farakka and 60km from Behrampore towns of Murshidabad. It is well connected with road and railway networks. It lies 250km North of Kolkata on NH34 and the nearest railway junction is Jangipur Road (approx 08km). By air, it can be reached through Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata.

The Centre started MBA and BALLB courses in 2011 and added B. Ed. in 2013 to its portfolio of courses. The student intake in MBA and BALLB is 60 each while in B. Ed. 50 seats are offered under various subjects. At present, the AMU Centre Murshidabad represents students from 18 states of India. On the human resource front, the Centre is having 26 well-qualified teachers. The Centre is equipped with computer lab, campus-wide wi-fi facility, seminar library, and sports playground.

The Centre is carrying forward the great legacy and cultural ethos of Aligarh Muslim University. It stands for bringing an educational revolution in the country for socially, economically and educationally backward communities, who have so far lost the opportunity to develop. It is committed to secular ideas and is providing quality education to all sections of the society at an affordable cost.
