National Geospatial Faculty Fellow Award 2024

Dr. Haris Hasan Khan, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Interdisciplinary Department of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications, received the National Geospatial Faculty Fellow Award at the Indian Institute of Technology - Bombay (IITB) on 15th September 2024, during the National Geospatial Awards 2024 and Open GIS Day celebrations. The awards were distributed by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, at Prof. B. Nag Auditorium, Victor Menezes Convention Center (VMCC).


The National Geospatial Awards 2024 initiative of the FOSSEE (GIS) project, IIT Bombay, is organised under the aegis of the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India. The key objectives of the 'National Geospatial Awards 2024' are to honour the enablers of geospatial technology in India, cutting across professions (Institutions, Faculty, Industry Professionals, Individuals, etc), along with celebrating the spirit of Open Source Geospatial/ GIS tools which has empowered stakeholders and policymakers to adopt the latest technologies that align with the 'National Geospatial Policy 2022', and the 'Indian Space Policy 2023'.


Dr Haris has been recognised for his contributions in the field of geospatial sciences, especially for the promotion of open-source geospatial software like SAGA, QGIS, SNAP, ODM, etc, and online geospatial datasets to address societal concerns, especially water resources, including flood inundation, groundwater depletion, and stream-aquifer interactions.
