Dr. Abrar Ahmad Khan (M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D.) Professor, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, has a brilliant academic carrier. He received his Ph.D. in 1988, under the supervision of eminent Nematologist of India, Prof. M.W. Khan. He worked on species and race characterization of root-knot nematode populations in India and interaction between environmental pollutants and plant nematodes. Recorded race 2 of M. arenaria for the first time from India and Race 1,2,3,4 of M. incognita from U.P. while M. hapla from Uttaranchal states. He located resistance in several crops and successfully managed the nematode through fly ash. Recommended the use of 10-20% fly ash in soils for improvement of crop productivity. His research areas are Plant Pathology, Plant Nematology and Environmental Botany.
Dr. Khan has published more than 220 research papers in national and international journals. He published a number of review articles and 2 books. He has been principal investigator of major (UGC and DST) research projects. Guided several B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. students. He is fellow of Indian Phytopathological Society. He is member of several committees and life member of societies. He successfully completed the responsibilities of Head of Department of Biology and Microbiology, UMYU, Katsina, Nigeria. Presently he is Chairperson of Department of Botany, A.M.U, Aligarh.
