Born in 1951, I obtained my Ph.D. in chemistry from Aligarh Muslim University in 1979. I pursued my research activity in synthetic organic chemistry for some years with various fellowships and became a UGC-Research Scientist in 1988. Currently I am Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry.
I have a varied research interest and my earlier research activities include: synthetic studies on organomercurial carbene precursors, sulfonium ylides and oxygen heterocycles. My recent research interest is in the area of synthetic organic photochemistry. The purpose of this research is to apply the principles of synthetic organic photochemistry to solve the problems of drug photochemistry and photobiology. The current research focus is on the photodegradation mechanisms of photosensitizing drugs to identify the photochemical reactions and molecular mechanism involved in the drug induced photosensitization ensuing phototoxicity.
Teaching assignment and interest include undergraduate and postgraduate courses on: general organic chemistry, reaction mechanism, group theory and spectroscopy, theories and applications of various spectroscopies and advanced specialization courses on design of organic synthesis by disconnection approach, photochemistry, and bio-organic chemistry.
Some of my published researches are in the following scientific journals:
Journal of Organometallic chemistry
Chemistry & Industry (London),
Journal of Chemical Research (S) and Journal of Chemical Research (M)
ARKIVOC (Arakat ?? USA)
Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin (Japan)
DiePharmazie (Govi-Verlag, Germany)
