S. S. Z. Ashraf embarked on his academic journey with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics from the illustrious Aligarh Muslim University, followed by M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the prestigious Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. His research interests lie within the rich and evolving landscape of Condensed Matter Physics, with particular emphasis on many-body interactions and the transport phenomena in low-dimensional systems. In recent years, his scientific inquiry has been captivated by the remarkable properties of graphene and its bilayer structures.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Ashraf has authored more than fifty research papers published in reputed international journals such as the Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, Journal of Applied Physics, Physica E, Physica Status Solidi B, Physica Scripta, International Journal of Modern Physics B, Modern Physics Letters, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, European Physical Journal: Applied Physics, World Journal of Condensed Matter Physics, and various conference proceedings.
Equally passionate about science communication, he regularly writes popular science articles for the Departmental Annual Physics Bulletin, and has contributed to national magazines such as Resonance and Physics Education. His eloquence extends beyond the written word; he has delivered numerous popular science lectures at institutions both within and outside the campus of AMU.
In a teaching career that spans more than twenty-two years, Dr. Ashraf has taught B.Sc. and M.Sc. classes at Shibli National College, Azamgarh, as well as at the Department of Physics, AMU. He has also taught interdisciplinary courses in B.Tech., B.E., and M.Tech. (Nanotechnology) programmes at the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, AMU.
Beyond the world of physics, Dr. Ashraf’s pensmanship finds expression in poetry—both in English and Urdu. A lover of language and lyricism, he has published several of his poetic compositions in online and print literary columns, where his poetic voice adds a lyrical dimension to his otherwise scientific world
