The focal theme of research is to unravel underlying mechanism of salt and water metabolism in teleost fishes particularly the role of various protein and steroid hormones in the regulation of this vital physiological process in fishes. Particular interest is on the localization and characterization of the specific cellular targets on the effector organs by employing immunofluorescent and electron microscopy approaches. Another area of interest is the quantification of the genetic variability through DNA- based markers in some alarmingly declining commercially important teleost fishes of Indian subcontinent to evolve a suitable strategy to check and reverse this declining trend in the fish population. The salient findings have been published in the journals of international repute such as Chromosome Research, BMC Genomics, Gene, General & Comparative Endocrinology, Fish Physiology Biochemistry, Journal of Experimental Zoology, Diabetes Research & Clinical Practice, Journal of Fish Biology including chapters in reputed books. The teaching interests are focused on Comparative physiology, molecular endocrinology and fishery science and aquaculture.
