Fishery Science and Aquaculture is the major specialty of my teaching and research. Primary focus of my research is on the natural resource management and population dynamics of freshwater teleosts. Specifically, we are working to identify species-specific structure(s) for precise fish age estimation, to decipher species-specific growth parameters, and to delineate stock(s) of freshwater teleosts mainly from the Ganga river system. Research work at my laboratory received more than Rs. 89 Lakh funding from various R&D agencies such as UGC, DST-SERB and CST-UP. Four Ph.D. and 03 M. Phil. degrees, and 35 MSc project dissertations have already been awarded under my supervision. Our research findings appear mostly in SCI indexed and impact factor journals published from Elsevier Science, Wiley-Blackwell, CSIRO publishing, EDP Sciences, Taylor and Francis, Springer-Nature, etc. Based on publications, we have the distinction of being the pioneer research group in the country working on estimation of precise fish age and analysis of otolith microchemistry for fish stock identification.
