The Genesis 

The Department of Education of Aligarh Muslim University was established in 1923. It is among the premier institutions of Teacher Education in India. For more than 97 years, it has been producing teachers who are competent and committed to their profession with a dedicated attitude to serve the cause of education not only in India but globally, having a broader outlook, scientific temper, and positive thinking. The products of this Department are not only spread over the whole country but are serving in different countries of the world. We are committed to producing such dedicated teachers who may, apart from a professional and humane teachership, also represent, through their educational endeavor, the harmonious heritage of Indian Unity in Diversity, the legacy of ancient Indian wisdom, Love, tolerance, and the spiritual temperament of the spirit of Indian National culture through the ages. 

The Education Department has a century-long legacy of serving the Nation and contributing in her Educational, Literary, and Intellectual development with some of its Stalwarts Educationists, Writers, and Thinkers to name a few Prof. Habibur Rehman, Prof. K.G. Saiyadain, Prof. Akhtar Ansari,  Ms. Ismat Chugtai, Prof. Sajida Zaidi and Dr. Sabira K. Zaidi etc.


The Department runs following academic programmes

Two-Year B.Ed.

Four Year Integrated Teacher Education Prpogramme (ITEP) (Received Approoval by NCTE likely to start from Session 2023-24)


B.A. in Education 

B.A. Hons. Four Year as per NEP 2020

M.A. in Education 

Diploma in Teaching- DT  

Ph.D. in Education 

The Two Year B.Ed. Programme is also available at two other Centres of AMU i.e. AMU Center, Malappuram, Kerala, and AMU Center, Murshidabad, West Bengal.


अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय का शिक्षा विभाग 1923 में स्थापित किया गया था। यह भारत में शिक्षक शिक्षा के प्रमुख संस्थानों में से एक है। ९७ से अधिक वर्षों से, यह ऐसे शिक्षकों का निर्माण कर रहा है जो केवल भारत में बल्कि विश्व स्तर पर व्यापक दृष्टिकोण, वैज्ञानिक स्वभाव और सकारात्मक सोच के साथ शिक्षा जगत की सेवा करने के लिए समर्पित दृष्टिकोण के साथ सक्षम और प्रतिबद्ध हैं। इस विभाग से शिक्षा पूरी करने वाले छात्र-छात्राएं  केवल पूरे देश में फैले हुए हैं बल्कि दुनिया के विभिन्न देशों में सेवा दे रहे हैं। हम ऐसे समर्पित शिक्षक तैयार करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हैं, जो एक पेशेवर और मानवीय शिक्षक के अलावा, अपने शैक्षिक प्रयास के माध्यम से, विविधता में एकता की सामंजस्यपूर्ण  भारतीय विरासत, प्राचीन भारतीय ज्ञान, प्रेम, सहिष्णुता और आध्यात्मिकता की विरासत तथा युगों युगों से भारतीय राष्ट्रीय संस्कृति की भावना के अतुलनीय स्वभाव का भी प्रतिनिधित्व कर सकें। शिक्षा विभाग के पास देश की सेवा करने और उसके शैक्षिक, साहित्यिक और बौद्धिक विकास में योगदान देने की एक शताब्दी लंबी विरासत है, जिसमें कुछ दिग्गज शिक्षाविद, लेखक और विचारक शामिल हैं, जिनमें प्रोफेसर हबीबुर रहमान, प्रो. के.जी. सैयदैन, प्रो. अख्तर अंसारी, सुश्री इस्मत चुगताई, प्रो. साजिदा जैदी और डॉ. सबीरा के. जैदी आदि शामिल हैं।

वर्तमान में शिक्षा विभाग निम्नलिखित शैक्षणिक कार्यक्रम चलाता है

दो वर्षीय बी.एड.

चार वर्षीय एकीकृत शिक्षक शिक्षा कार्यक्रम (आईटीईपी) (जुलाई २०२३  से शुरू होने की संभावना)


बी ए० शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में

चार वर्षीय बी ए० ऑनर्स। राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति २०२०  के अनुसार

ऍम शिक्षा शास्त्र

डी० टी०  टीचिंग में डिप्लोमा-

पीएच.डी. (शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में)


To emerge as a center of excellence in the arena of Educational Foundations and Teacher Education with International Standards.


The Department of Education is committed to achieving the following in near future-

  1. Evolving the Department as a leading center for pedagogical, curricular, and research activities in compliance with National Education Policy and Socio-Cultural relevance. 
  2. Developing competent and socially committed school teachers and teacher educators with modern skills and scientific temper.
  3. Preparing students with 21st-century challenges of teaching and creating a more effective teaching-learning environment.
  4. Motivating the minds to utilize education as the most effective tool for sustainable development.
  5. Blending educational practices with traditional and modern approaches for holistic development.

The Department provides excellent infrastructure facilities. The Library of the Department has around sixteen thousand books (including volumes and titles) and can claim to be one of the biggest reference libraries on education. It has a big reading hall with a seating capacity of more than 80 at a time, having a book processing section, and a journal and periodical section.

There are five well-equipped and maintained laboratories for the students to be used as an essential part of B.Ed. and M.Ed. Programmes.:

The Department has produced a number of Teachers who have been working in schools and different University Departments, Educational Institutions and serving society in different capacities both in India and abroad. Apart from it, a good number of students have been qualifying UGC-NET, JRF, over the years getting State and National Level Scholarships, conferring ranks in different Competitive Examinations every year thus adding to the cap of the Department many feathers each successive year by their hard work, achievements, and dedication in serving the humanity.
