DEVELOPMENTAL FRAMEWORK OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING PROGRAMME

The Guidance and Counselling Cell was initiated with the aim of providing services to students and to journey with them in their lives by helping them build more resources within themselves, remove barriers that hinder their growth potential and feel more equipped to find their way in the world. Guidance and Counselling can help in promoting students’ retention and better scholastic performance in curricular areas, facilitating adjustment and career development of students, developing the right attitudes towards studies, self, work and others (RMSA, 2012)

Objectives of Guidance and Counselling Programme: The specific objectives are as follows

• To facilitate the development of an integrated and well-adjusted individual

• To enhance the motivation level of students to accomplish stipulated educational goals.

• To identify the weaker students and assist them to develop up to their potentials.

• To provide optimum assistance to the students with special education needs.

• To ensure that a student is able to successfully deal with the problems and continue with the quality endeavours in her/his academic pursuit

• To provide comprehensive guidance and counselling services needed to become mature and socially responsible individuals in collaboration with the students’ counselling centre of Aligarh Muslim University.

• To provide for the realization of student potentialities and plan accordingly.

• To provide the students with the necessary information about the courses available and the qualifications required for each course.

• To provide information about various job opportunities available and the qualifications as well as preparation required to acquire success in getting employment.

• To assist the students to improve their study habits and time management for qualifying NET/JRF and other competitive examinations.

• To reduce the anxiety level of the students by developing feelings of psychological safety and security for better achievement.

• To assist students in developing life skills like interpersonal relationship skills, effective communication skills, critical thinking skills, decision-making skills, problem-solving skills, leadership skills and self-learning skills essential for quality and productive life.

• To conduct workshops, seminars and special events to assist students in career planning

• To conduct psychological testing in various domains of teacher education,

Who can approach?

• Bonafide students of the Department of Education of all programmes, M.Ed, B.Ed, MA and Diploma in Teaching, can approach the committee members if required.

General Instructions and Information

• Students can approach the committee members during the departmental hours, 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.

• It is mandatory to take prior permission via telephone before meeting the committee members and you are required to strictly adhere to the time slot given by the committee members.

• Personal problems of the students will be kept confidential by the committee members
