Regional Training Centre, MvPI, IPC, MoH&FW, GoI

The Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI) is an initiative by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), which operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. This program focuses on monitoring and ensuring the safety of medical devices in the country, thereby improving patient safety. The Medical Device Adverse Event Monitoring Centre (MDMC) at JNMC-AMU is one of the recognized centers for reporting adverse events related to medical devices to the IPC, Ghaziabad.

Since April 2021, MDMC at JNMC-AMU has been actively participating in this program, reporting hundreds of adverse events associated with medical devices. Recently, an official letter with a certificate from IPC is received to the Principal of JNMC, AMU, Aligarh, stating that the existing MDMC at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University, under MvPI, is now approved as a Regional Training Centre (RTC) for a period of three years with effect from August 8, 2024.

During the National CME on Adverse Events in Dentistry on 10th August 2024 at Z. A. Dental College, Dr. Vivekanandan Kalaiselvan, a Senior Principal Scientific Officer at IPC, MoHFW, Government of India, has also announced the upgradation of MDMC-AMU to a Regional Training Centre (RTC) for educational and training programs related to materiovigilance activities in Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states. He emphasized that the role of the RTC involves greater responsibility, including training healthcare professionals and stakeholders, and disseminating resource materials and information in native languages.

Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Program Coordinator, MDMC, mentioned that India already has six functional RTCs under the Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI), IPC, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. He stated that this seventh new RTC will have a proactive role in supporting the National Coordinating Centre of MvPI in recognizing new MDMCs, providing support to existing MDMCs, developing product-specific training modules, and also coordinating with the National Oral Health Programme.

Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean and Principal of J.N. Medical College & Hospital, AMU, expressed her happiness about this significant development, attributing it to the active role of MDMC in the past. She requested all healthcare professionals to cooperate and participate in this national program and report adverse event if any to the Pharmacovigilance Associate Mr. Gufran Ali at Department of Pharmacology, JNMC, AMU, Aligarh.
