Dr. Yasser Rafat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and is the Assistant Training and Placement Officer. He is the lab In-charge of the Turbomachinery Lab. He is among the founding members of an industrial collaborative research centre in electric mobility at AMU and is the Co-Coordinator of the Center of Advanced Research in Electrified Transportation (C.A.R.E.T.). Dr. Rafat received his B. Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Aligarh Muslim University, India. For further studies he moved to Canada where he pursued his Masters with research degree (M.A.Sc) from Concordia University. During his masters he worked on the ride vibration analysis a Montreal metro car. He developed ride models of the metro car and validated it with the actual ride vibration data. He pursued his Ph.D degree from McGill University (currently among the top 20 universities of the world). During his doctorate he performed experimental and numerical study of acoustic streaming with applications in thermoacoustic refrigeration. He worked on various experimental techniques related to flow and vibration measurements like PIV, PLIF, LDA, HWA, LDV, Impact hammer etc. He also performed LBM simulation of acoustic streaming in a standing wave resonator with stack, simulating acoustic streaming in a simplified standing wave thermoacoustic refrigerator. Dr. Rafat has authored/coauthored several publications and delivered talks in the area of thermofluids and thermoacoustics. He served as reviewer for POMA (Acoustical Society of America). He has also filed a patent in the area of charging infrastructure of xEVs. His research interests are in the fields of Sports projectile aerodynamics,Quantification of Schlieren visualization data of turbulent jets, Heat management of Li-ion batteries, Building acoustics, Thermoacoustic refrigerators and engines.
